The 2024 Golden Globe Awards kicked off a month-long award season last night, and adorned with star-studded guests, the gala saw the A-list attendees lean into the pure unapologetic old-school Hollywood glamour of traditional silhouettes, sequins and satin in a take that felt both modern and unexpected. The beauty looks of the night proved to be quintessential ‘no-makeup makeup’ this year, completely afresh with flawless and glowing skin, with subtle flushes of color across both the cheeks and lips – and you can call us here on theFashionSpot 100% obsessed.

You’ve encountered all the must-see fashion looks of the night, now it’s time to select the best beauty looks. Scroll further for the beauty highlights:

Elle Fanning:

Looking like she’s stumbled straight out of a fairy tale book, the American actress made a stunning arrival at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills wearing a silky ivory strapless gown embellished with a giant bow at the neckline. The piece is a vintage Pierre Balmain dress which features a fitted bodice and an ample skirt. To complement the look, Fanning oh so brilliantly wore a pretty natural makeup, including a subtle silver shadow, a thin black liner, and pink blush. Elle’s hair was styled into a neat, side-parted ballerina bun – ultimately becoming my absolute favorite from the night!

Margot Robbie:

The Aussie actress, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, for her role as Barbie arrived in a custom Giorgio Armani Privé hot pink sequined gown along with a pink tulle boa, which Barbie fans immediately recognized as a replica of the 1977 SuperStar Barbie doll’s 50th anniversary! Margot wore her beautiful blonde tresses parted in the middle and cascading down in gentle soft waves, with flawless glowing skin and a gorgeous flush on pink on her lips. What’s not to love?

Rosamund Pike:

The sweeping ballerina-length, full-skirted black chantilly-laced dress the British actress wore was paired with a “protective veil” designed by Philip Tracey, selected to help conceal the wounds of a skiing accident in December. The dress from a 2019 Christian Dior haute couture collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri was selected by stylist Leith Clark. Leith accessorized the netted dress on Pike with pair of black platform sandals, ear cuffs of dazzling white diamonds and rings from Boucheron. Fair the say the veil made this look!

Carey Mulligan:

Mulligan channeled 1950s-style glamour on the red carpet – and with stunning results. The actress wore a vintage Schiaparelli black dress with ruching down the centre and an embellished sweetheart strapless neckline. Hairstylist Jenny Cho said the sparkly dress was the main inspiration behind Mulligan’s contrasting sleek bob.

Danielle Brooks:

Dressed in a stunningly vibrant floor-length red Moschino dress, adorned with jewels by swarovski, Danielle Brooks oozed old-Hollywood glamour. Looking like a time-less classic, with side swept dark copper curls, and a full glam, she was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and makeup by Rebekah Aladdin. A round of applause, please!

Elizabeth Debicki:

Making a glittering entrance at the 2024 Golden Globes Awards, the actress, who won her first Golden Globe for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Nextflix’s The Crown, donned a Christian Dior Haute Couture dress from the French fashion house’s Fall 2023 collection. Debicki wore her platinum blonde locks slightly tousled, while her makeup consisted of a nude lip and muted blush. Less is always more, right?

Jennifer Aniston:

Can we even talk about the 2024 Golden Globe Awards without the mention of Jennifer Aniston’s new-do? The actress ultimately chose the event to reveal a new shorter-length hairstyle, with the internet (including us here at theFashionSpot) immediately reminded of the iconic ‘The Rachel’ cut. Can we get a tutorial anytime soon, Chris McMillan?

There’s something going on over at ELLE HQ in Midtown Manhatten and we here at theFashionSpot, 100% approve. As editor-in-chief of the American fashion glossy, Nina Garcia has propelled the Hearst-owned publication to new heights and outshines the competition on the regular. From covers with Zendaya to Phoebe Dynevor we have been utterly enthralled by the magazine’s offerings throughout 2023 and last month with Irina Shayk left us wanting even more. Garcia is closing the chapter on 2023 with a series of celebratory covers for ELLE‘s annual ‘Women In Hollywood’ issue and selects Jennifer Lopez, Jodie Foster, Taraji P. Henson, America Ferrera, Danielle Brooks, Greta Lee, Fantasia Barrino Taylor, Lily Gladstone and Eva Longoria as cover stars for the occasion.

ELLE‘s latest immediately sparked debate amongst our forum members. “Happy to see Danielle (the Oscar is hers for the taking) but I can’t say I particularly like any of these covers,” voiced KoV.

“None of the covers are beautiful, but the Jennifer Lopez’s is very Numéro,” DK92 noted.

“Too bad J.Lo’s mouth look weird, hers is the one of the best of the bunch IMO,” said kokobombon.

In regards to Lopez’s cover, forum member kasper exclaimed: “Terrible tribute to Herb Ritts! Can we have something original at least?”

MModa felt the same way, commenting: “The Jennifer Lopez cover is absolutely STUNNING! I cannot wait to get my hands on this issue with Lopez. I don’t see Herb Ritts influence in these photographs, I see Solve Sundsbo’s minimal style that I love. With a beauty and icon like Lopez, you don’t need special effects!”

“Phwoar, that Jennifer Lopez cover is absolutely EVERYTHING, I am in love. The gold, the glamour, the sultriness, the warmth, the festiveness, the minimalism, the slight nod to Herb Ritts…” raved vogue28.

Sparkle was definitely trending at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. In sharp contrast to the blackout at the Golden Globes, this red carpet was pretty blinding with all the sequined gowns and bright colors, not to mention all the flashy jewelry. Pink also proved popular with several stars selecting soft shades of the millennial favorite. The hairstyles were just as grand as the gowns with attendees rocking everything from natural locks to finger waves to slicked-back strands and even space buns. In case you missed the ceremony, you can check out all the red carpet highlights from this year’s SAG Awards above.

Sometimes the SAG Awards gets a bum rap because it doesn’t draw the prestige of say, the Golden Globes or the Oscars on the fashion front. But this year’s edition of the star-studded ceremony really delivered when it came to style with variety being a running theme. You had those attendees who took a slightly goth turn, favoring everything from black gowns to moody makeup. Then there were the celebs outfitted in stripes, ranging from mixed metallics to candy-colored. Perhaps inspired by trailblazer Evan Rachel Wood, quite a few ladies rocked suits, jumpsuits or pant sets on last night’s red carpet (all with a special twist). Statement jewelry was trending with the outrageous bling occasionally outshining the dresses and shades of pink also proved popular. And leave it to Nicole Kidman to have everyone talking (and all the Monday morning fashion police debating) about her glistening parrot-sleeve Gucci gown. For all the red carpet style highlights, check out the slideshow above.

The show must go on. And indeed it did as the decision was made to proceed with the Tony Awards last night after the tragic mass shooting in Orlando. Of course, the horrible act was referenced throughout the evening, beginning with host James Corden’s poignant opening. Several winners addressed the tragedy in their acceptance speeches and a performance of the hit Hamilton was put on without any muskets.

When it came to the fashion, there were a surprising amount of risk-takers in attendance. A floor-length sash, a jazzed-up jacket and strategic cut-outs were all spotted. Vivid colors and heavy embellishments were relatively common sights. There were also some traditional and nontraditional suits (including one dynamic version sported by an actress). Once again, we were treated to an array of models at the awards, no doubt courtesy of Anna Wintour. For the top red carpet looks from this year’s Tony Awards ceremony, check out the slideshow above.

The body positive conversation has been happening digitally for some time now but most print magazines have yet to embrace it in a substantive way. Ebony magazine is leading the charge with its March cover dedicated to body image. The cover features four influential plus-size women of color: blogger/designer Gabi Fresh (nèe Gabi Gregg), Orange is the New Black actress Danielle Brooks and singers Jazmine Sullivan and Chrisette Michele.

Styled in military gear and lingerie, the women participate in a “stripped bare” and “unfiltered” conversation about issues like self-love, plastic surgery, dieting and even sex. Their thought-provoking and eye-opening discussion makes the cover story one of the best print features in recent memory. The “Women Up” issue, a celebration of Women’s History Month, is one of several thoughtful and dynamic issues helmed by Editor-in-Chief Kierna Mayo.

The iconic magazine also released “The Family Issue” in November 2015 featuring a provocative article on the public perception of Bill Cosby vs. his beloved TV character, Cliff Huxtable. In December 2015, its “Power to the People” issue explored the intersection of racism and police brutality and featured Harry Belafonte, Jesse Williams, and Zendaya Coleman on the cover. Here’s hoping an issue exploring diversity on the runway is coming down the pipeline.

Metallics, chain mail and chain-link accents stole the spotlight at this year’s ceremony (Kerry Washington‘s just-presented Marc Jacobs Spring 2016 dress was a true show-stopper). As attendees sweated it out on the red carpet (temps approached 100 degrees, making it a real challenge to look glamorous), we had to wonder if any of these ladies regretted their flashy choices. Striking silhouettes were another big trend as stars stepped out in everything from sleek jumpsuits to full-on princess gowns as well as dresses boasting extended trains and flamboyant structured skirts. While we experienced our fair share of black gowns, celebs seemed to favor color sporting hot pinks, brilliant blues, rich reds, vibrant yellows and plum purples. It’s been about three years since the Gwen Stefani-backed L.A.M.B. showed at New York Fashion Week, but that doesn’t mean Gwen’s been resting on her laurels all that time. The label’s still been putting out collections, plus Gwen’s released a shoe and accessories line for ShoeDazzle. Oh, and she also had a baby. It’s understandable why she’d roll back on all the hub-bub and fanfare that comes with NYFW. But thank goodness for Spring 2015 – this season, L.A.M.B. made its triumphant return to the runway and brought back some of that familiar magic we love from the line.

In an expansive space at ArtBeam, the label set up giant LCD screens on one side of the room showing the (very diverse) cast of models in the clothes, twirling, dancing and just plain looking cool. Designers, take note. It actually is possible to cast great models of color in your shows.  I entered the show to see a sprinkling of girls on the runway – or rather the stage, which had bars on both sides so guests could sip signature cocktails as they watched the show.

Danielle Brooks; Image: Getty Images

The clothes were what you’d expect from L.A.M.B.: lots of pattern and color, anchored by black and white with a dash of tribal influence, the signature aesthetic of the brand. The show was not without some celebrity presence. Lingering after the presentation for photos with fans was Orange is the New Black‘s Danielle Brooks, a.k.a. Taystee. The Julliard-trained actress was in high spirits, her curves banging in a slinky printed bodycon frock, debuting a new cropped haircut. “I love it, I do – it’s very freeing,” the actress told us of her new coif. We hadn’t recalled seeing her around the Fashion Week scene, but Brooks says this isn’t her first time to the rodeo – at least not really. “This is my first serious [Fashion Week]. I was working so much with Orange last season, I didn’t get to go to the fashion shows, but I went to last year’s first Fashion Awards show.”

Ms. Brooks intends on making a few more appearances this week as well, noting that she would be at Charlotte Ronson and Fashion Rocks, although beyond that, she’s uncertain as Orange is currently filming season 3. When work calls…

But it seems Brooks is enjoying her time in the spotlight since blowing up thanks to the success of the Emmy award-nominated Netflix series. “Giiirl… it’s just fun!,” she said with a laugh. “I’m enjoying the experience of it all, taking it all in. I’m very grateful, It happened very fast so it was a little intimidating. It took a minute to adjust – and I’m still adjusting. But I feel very blessed to be giving a voice to people who are like me, who feel they can relate to me in some way. For me, that’s what it’s about.”

Access to fashion shows? That’s just a nice perk. As for the clothes, Brooks was very enthusiastic about a pair of hot pink flared pants Stefani showed for this season. “[Taystee] would be all over them, and so would Danielle!”

We have a feeling we’ll be seeing Ms. Brooks in those trousers very soon.
