The 2024 Golden Globe Awards kicked off a month-long award season last night, and adorned with star-studded guests, the gala saw the A-list attendees lean into the pure unapologetic old-school Hollywood glamour of traditional silhouettes, sequins and satin in a take that felt both modern and unexpected. Elle Fanning:

Looking like she’s stumbled straight out of a fairy tale book, the American actress made a stunning arrival at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills wearing a silky ivory strapless gown embellished with a giant bow at the neckline. The piece is a vintage Pierre Balmain dress which features a fitted bodice and an ample skirt. To complement the look, Fanning oh so brilliantly wore a pretty natural makeup, including a subtle silver shadow, a thin black liner, and pink blush. Elle’s hair was styled into a neat, side-parted ballerina bun – ultimately becoming my absolute favorite from the night!

Margot Robbie:

The Aussie actress, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, for her role as Barbie arrived in a custom Giorgio Armani Privé hot pink sequined gown along with a pink tulle boa, which Barbie fans immediately recognized as a replica of the 1977 SuperStar Barbie doll’s 50th anniversary! Margot wore her beautiful blonde tresses parted in the middle and cascading down in gentle soft waves, with flawless glowing skin and a gorgeous flush on pink on her lips. What’s not to love?

Rosamund Pike:

The sweeping ballerina-length, full-skirted black chantilly-laced dress the British actress wore was paired with a “protective veil” designed by Philip Tracey, selected to help conceal the wounds of a skiing accident in December. The dress from a 2019 Christian Dior haute couture collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri was selected by stylist Leith Clark. Leith accessorized the netted dress on Pike with pair of black platform sandals, ear cuffs of dazzling white diamonds and rings from Boucheron. Fair the say the veil made this look!

Carey Mulligan:

Mulligan channeled 1950s-style glamour on the red carpet – and with stunning results. The actress wore a vintage Schiaparelli black dress with ruching down the centre and an embellished sweetheart strapless neckline. Hairstylist Jenny Cho said the sparkly dress was the main inspiration behind Mulligan’s contrasting sleek bob.

Danielle Brooks:

Dressed in a stunningly vibrant floor-length red Moschino dress, adorned with jewels by swarovski, Danielle Brooks oozed old-Hollywood glamour. Looking like a time-less classic, with side swept dark copper curls, and a full glam, she was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and makeup by Rebekah Aladdin. A round of applause, please!

Elizabeth Debicki:

Making a glittering entrance at the 2024 Golden Globes Awards, the actress, who won her first Golden Globe for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Nextflix’s The Crown, donned a Christian Dior Haute Couture dress from the French fashion house’s Fall 2023 collection. Debicki wore her platinum blonde locks slightly tousled, while her makeup consisted of a nude lip and muted blush. Less is always more, right?

Jennifer Aniston:

Can we even talk about the 2024 Golden Globe Awards without the mention of Jennifer Aniston’s new-do? The actress ultimately chose the event to reveal a new shorter-length hairstyle, with the internet (including us here at theFashionSpot) immediately reminded of the iconic ‘The Rachel’ cut. Last night, Hollywood stars descended upon the iconic Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills for the 81st annual Golden Globe awards. Stars like Margot Robbie dazzled in sequined Giorgio Armani Privé (channeling Barbie, because what else?), Taylor Swift shone bright in custom lime green Gucci while the living legend that is Meryl Streep walked the red carpet in a shimmering Dolce & Gabbana floor-length skirt and jacket. Selena Gomez had somewhat of a mini Marilyn Monroe moment before the lens of the paparazzi, wearing a ruby red dress and the even the warm Los Angeles wind understood the assignment when Hunter Schafer arrived in custom translucent Prada. Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez nailed old-school Hollywood glamour while Elle Fanning took deep in the Balmain archives to unearth and revive a vintage Pierre Balmain dress.

Unlike the vast majority of fashion brands, Alexander McQueen prefers to switch things up when it comes to commissioning photographers to shoot their advertising campaigns. Since Spring 2020, we’ve encountered the works of Jamie Hawkesworth, Paolo Roversi, Steven Meisel, Jonas Akerlund and now David Sims for Fall 2023. Aside from Naomi Campbell, the casting gets a refresh this season too, as Elle Fanning, Liu Wen, Karolina Spakowski, Eva Green, Yseult, Momo Ndiaye and Eliott De Smedt Day star in the campaign. The assortment of models and actresses handpicked by the brand’s (soon-to-depart) creative director Sarah Burton, each pose solo throughout the series of studio-shot campaign images.

Ultimately, the end result failed to impress members of theFashionSpot forums. “It looks like something fan-made. Amateur on stratospheric levels!” exclaimed DK92.
“What a waste of Eva Green,” shrieked Golden Petals.
“Eva Green and Alexander McQueen should have been spectacular,” cried out Ema98.
Also not buying it was vogue28, adding: “Eva Green on her own or Naomi Campbell on her own would have made more sense, as opposed to this random casting lineup. All of this just feels like a total non-event of a campaign, despite having all the components for a strong offering. A massive disappointment, and a massively missed opportunity.”
“I don’t think Elle Fanning is an Alexander McQueen woman, no matter how much she may frown and try to look edgy. Also, has Naomi forgotten how to model?” asked woemwoem.

After skipping 2020 and scaling back for 2021 due to the pandemic, the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival is back in full force. Which is great for us since it usually produces fashion moments on par with the Met Gala and the Oscars. Although we have to admit, a decent amount of looks were relatively lackluster.

When it comes to designers, certain ones reigned supreme. We witnessed several dresses from Valentino’s Fall 2022 offering, aka the pink collection, take to the red carpet. Sharon Stone stuck with Dolce & Gabbana probably because she stars in the Italian fashion house’s new handbag campaign. As usual, there were plenty of haute couture looks to go around. Fendi, Armani Privé, Elie Saab, Christian Dior and Chanel are just a small sampling. Custom creations were also trending with Cara Delevingne’s revealing Balmain gown one of the standouts.

The jewelry was also something to behold. Especially when it came to necklaces. Julianne Moore’s Bottega Veneta dress was amplified by Bulgari’s Eden The Garden of Wonders necklace, for example.

On the beauty front, hair really turned heads. Bella Hadid’s wet-look hairdo with sculpted strands in the middle of her forehead really made a statement. As did Grace Elizabeth’s piecey pixie.

It feels like forever since there’s been a red carpet event. (In actuality, it’s only been a few months since The Fashion Awards 2021.) But the glamour was definitely back in full force at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards. And we’re certainly not complaining one bit. It’s a great way to kick off the slightly delayed 2022 award season.

The usual stars really shined bright. Cate Blanchett and Lady Gaga both wowed in Armani Privé. Elle Fanning ditched a dress in favor of a gorgeous Gucci ensemble. Jessica Chastain also suited up in Christian Dior haute couture. Julianna Margulies and Jada Pinkett Smith both went the vintage route wearing Narciso Rodriguez and Gareth Pugh respectively.

A couple of newcomers also turned heads. CODA actress Emilia Jones stunned in a truly spectacular Givenchy gown. Breakout Squid Game star and model HoYeon Jung rocked an embellished Louis Vuitton creation along with a matching hair accessory.

The jewelry was mesmerizing, too. Gaga was decked out in diamonds courtesy of Tiffany & Co. While Selena Gomez’s Bvlgari Serpenti choker was elegance personified. Her statement ring was pretty striking as well.

But the cover ended Elle’s winning streak. “Why does she look so annoyed? And when I scrolled down I did not expect to see those dogs, how random! Wish her pose could’ve been stronger to play up the Grecian look. This would have been stunning,” critiqued Benn98.

“Such a flat picture,” said an underwhelmed mikel.

“I love Elle and I love the styling, but how is this not an outtake? She looks beyond pissed off,” KINGofVERSAILLES pointed out.

Also far from impressed was cottonmouth13: “What a waste of Elle Fanning. They could have done so much better considering this is her first solo cover for them. It’s more like an amateur photo that belongs to her Instagram for content purposes, but Vanity Fair decided to use it…”

“Seriously, what is happening here? Elle Fanning deserves much better,” stated dodencebt.

“I mean when you pick THIS shot as the cover, you really have no clue what you are doing!” proclaimed Miss Dalloway.
