Selena Gomez has been pretty much a constant on the covers of Vogue, ever since Vogue Brazil welcomed the American hitmaker onto her very first back in June 2016. Covers for Vogue Australia (on two seperate occasions), Vogue Singapore and American Vogue (again, twice) have since followed. Karla Martínez de Salas is quick to welcome Gomez back onto the cover of Vogue Mexico with the unveiling of the magazine’s January 2024 installment, as she’s captured all smiles for photographer Michael Bailey-Gates. Posing beside two giant floral displays in the charming cover photograph, the now 8-time Vogue cover girl is dressed by stylist Clare Byrne in a look from Prada’s Spring 2024 collection.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This is so wrong… Selena looks like she wants to pee! She is going strong to be the singer with the worst covers in history. I still have NIGHTMARES about the tragedy that is her cover for V Magazine!” DK92 exclaimed.

“Why this? Starting off 2024 bad Vogue Mexico. They need a new team, obviously…” called out Xone.

“Aaaayyyyyy noo,” shrieked oaklee91, suggesting they’d seen better covers.

The Ghost of the Castle asked, “Is Selena Gomez even an ambassador to any fashion brand right now?”

“Seriously, will anything ever compare to when Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott photographed Selena for American Vogue‘s April 2017 issue? To this day, it remains the gold standard of Selena’s magazine covers and apparently no other creative individual wishes to outdo it,” noted vogue28.

Make no mistake that from the moment Margaret Zhang got her foot under the desk as editor-in-chief of Vogue China, she has championed and supported homegrown talent – especially that of Chinese fashion models. Last year, Zhang gave up the Chinese fashion bible’s front covers to everyone from Fei Fei Sun and Shu Pei to Lina Zhang and He Cong. To kick-start 2024, Zhang welcomes Chu Wong as the magazine’s January 2024 cover star. Across a duo of covers, the Chinese beauty who is one of the current faces of Louis Vuitton poses for photographer Huang Jiaqi on location under gloomy grey skies and a rugged landscape which makes for a visually-arresting backdrop. Dressed by stylist Vivienne Sun, Wong wears pieces from Prada’s Spring 2024 collection in the two cover photographs.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Every issue of Vogue China under the new editor feels the same. It’s all so boring,” blueorchid critiqued.

Also majorly underwhelmed was vogue28: “The second cover with the maroon-colored Prada is abysmal, as if the month of January isn’t dismal enough already! The red of the Prada skirt on the first cover does help brighten the gloomy (albeit stunning) backdrop in the first cover somewhat, which I am able to appreciate. What a pair of weak covers from Vogue China!”

Forum member crmsm ultimately disagreed, commenting: “Beautiful covers!”

“Very easy on the eyes, I’m thoroughly enjoying everything,” oaklee91 approved.

IMAGE | HARPERSBAZAAR.COM

Despite members of theFashionSpot forums critiquing the vast majority of American Harper’s Bazaar covers under Samira Nasr, we simply cannot deny Nasr’s knack for securing A-list talent for the magazine’s front covers. Cover subjects throughout 2023 have included everyone from Taylor Russell to Reese Witherspoon and Paris Hilton to Margaret Qualley. Fronting Bazaar’s double December 2023/January 2024 installment for over the holiday season is Lana Del Rey. Captured by photographer Collier Schorr and with styling from Yashua Simmons, the American songstress appears melancholic in the demure cover shot, donning a white tulle skirt with petticoat from Prada, teamed with a pair of Prada shoes and Cartier earrings.

Per usual, members of theFashionSpot forums soon began deliberating over the end result. “I am not a Lana Del Rey fan but I love the cover photograph and the styling. Love the color palette,” admired MModa.

“The cover is decent by Collier Schorr standards, but Lana is always dull and lifeless in pictures,” pointed out forum member mepps.

“And then throw in the dullness of Samira Nasr’s Harper’s Bazaar and we have this,” responded vogue28. “Although I will admit, it’s not the worst cover Nasr has delivered us. There’s just zero joy, life or energy for an issue which will be sat on shelves over the festive holiday season.”

“You can’t have nice things. Not even for the Dec-Jan issue. Maybe Lana was a bad girl, so the only thing Santa’s brought her is a bad wig,” tigerrouge commented.

Royal-Galliano said: “If I were a photographer, I would be embarrassed to hand in such work!”

“Lana del Rey deserves much better,” an underwhelmed WAVES declared.

“A cute cover by US Bazaar standards, but other magazines have done a much better job with Lana. I audibly gasped at the sight of that horrid wig. Unexpected subject choice, though. I appreciate that,” voiced aracic.

Prada Holiday 2023 by Willy Vanderperre
IMAGE | PRADA.COM

Willy Vanderperre is officially back in the fold at Prada. A firm fave of Raf Simons (having known one another since their days as children in Antwerp), the Belgian photographer first made his return to capture the brand’s Fall 2023 campaign (replacing David Sims) and is now back to shoot Holiday 2023. At the request of the luxury Italian fashion label’s current co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, a star-studded cast of actors including Maya Hawke, Kim Tae-Ri, Damson Idris and Louis Partridge front the campaign. The series of images transports us to a Prada-filled galaxy and all we require is a one-way ticket.

But members of theFashionSpot forums weren’t sold on the end result. “NO! OMG, NO! Are you sure this is a Prada advertising campaign and not a Tatler Christmas special circa 2016? What a horrific campaign,” immediately cried out 90sFan.

“From one of the most beautiful advertising campaigns ever to be seen in fashion, for which someone nearly died to get the right shot, to whatever this is. Sometimes I wish I could just disconnect from contemporary fashion and revel in the past,” sighed aracic.

Also deeply unimpressed was MModa: “The first image with Maya Hawke makes me think of photos I’ve seen in Macy’s or Lord & Taylor holiday catalogs!”

“Why do the holiday campaigns always look cheap?” asked Urban Stylin.

“They look all very stiff and uncomfortable. It’s a mystery to me how Prada has managed to increase it’s sales lately with mostly hot air,” chimed in FiLeReD.

Victoria Beckham is most definitely no stranger to the cover of Vogue. Since 2008, when Alexandra Shulman brilliantly gave up British Vogue‘s front cover to the bonafide fashion icon, editors of Vogue from across the globe have been tripping over themselves to make Mrs. Beckham their cover star and Eugénie Trochu of Vogue France is one of the latest. For November 2023, Victoria makes a return to the cover of the French fashion glossy, just one month shy of a whole decade since she and husband David Beckham guest-edited an entire issue of Vogue Paris during Emmanuelle Alt’s tenure. On this occasion, Victoria poses for photographer Lachlan Bailey and wears a look from Prada’s Fall 2023 collection (chosen by stylist Kate Phelan) and she sits inside a luxury vintage motor.

In the eyes of theFashionSpot’s forum members, Victoria’s 31st Vogue cover left a lot to be desired. “What a terrible cover choice! The angle is awful and the image itself screams pedestrian to me. They could’ve done much better,” noted thiago the moment the cover dropped.
“It’s so boring! Are there really no more people with creative ideas and a sense of style left in the world?” a disapproving Polynpon asked.
“What a snooze. Vogue France is devoid of any semblance of the eroticism, romance and fantasy of Vogue Paris,” called out Ribs666.
In the same frame of mind was jeremydante, adding: “The fall from grace of Vogue Paris to Vogue France. Such a sad sight to see.”
Lola701 voiced: “Emmanuelle did a fantastic job with her for her joined cover with David years ago. This is not her best profile and it does not look genuine. We want glamour from VB!”
“Apparently no one is willing to outdo Victoria’s April 2008 cover of British Vogue by Nick Knight, which remains the absolute gold standard of Victoria’s Vogue covers,” vogue28 declared.
Forum member lanvinray described Vogue France’s latest as “abysmal” but do you agree?

Launched earlier this year back in April, we simply don’t know where you’ve been if you weren’t aware that we now have a Chinese edition of W Magazine to fawn over. You’ve been missing out – big style. Under the tutelage of editor Mix Wei, W Magazine China’s debut outing saw Gong Li and Isabelle Huppert front the celebratory issue while Fei Fei Sun and photographer Zeng Wu proved to be a match made in heaven for the mag’s second installment. Now, three issues in, W China’s fashion issue is here for the Fall 2023 season and it’s nothing short of spectacular. Models Liu Wen and Naomi Campbell are welcomed as cover stars for the occasion, both working the lens of photographer Leslie Zhang, complete with stylist Austin Feng dressing the girls in looks from Prada’s Fall 2023 collection across a total of four collectable covers.

Members of our forums were left in awe. “They killed it! Liu Wen is stunning wowww,” Bertrando3 exclaimed.
“Liu Wen is having a moment and she is giving everything. She looks amazing and it’s good to see someone committed,” applauded Lola701.
“Never tired of saying this: Liu Wen is a star! She looks amazing and delivers it all. I could’ve done without Naomi…” chimed in forum member thiago.
“Naomi looks like an amateur here,” oaklee91 added.
“FABBBBBB! Both Liu and Naomi killed it, the vets showing the new girls how it’s done! Fashion magazines in Asia are on a whole other level, western publications need to step it up,” voiced fenty.
Vogue28 ultimately agreed, commenting: “You just have to hand it to the brilliant editors at these Chinese fashion titles, who seem to be the only editors left with an ounce of creativity and determination to keep fashion and fashion photography alive. Never usually pay attention to W China but I am 100% here for this!”

September was all about the fashion model (in more ways than one), and we sure do hope the month of October will follow suit. First up is Amber Valletta making an appearance on the latest edition of Vogue Spain, who makes a return to the cover of the Spanish fashion bible, almost a whole three years after her last. Shot on location within the creative hub of Brooklyn’s Industry City, up against a vibrant yellow wall of painted bricks, Amber is decked out in a Prada look from the brand’s Fall 2023 collection. All smiles, styled by Max Ortega and throwing about some flower petals, the American beauty’s Vogue Spain October 2023 cover story is complete with photography from Alex Webb.

Members of theFashionSpot forums, however, were far from impressed with the result. “I’m assuming this has been plucked from a garbage fashion story that will plague all the October issues of Vogue. What a total waste of Amber Valletta!” declared vogue28.
“What a waste of Amber,” echoed kokobombon.
In the same frame of mind was forum member ah ah, adding: “You cannot do this to Amber!”
“Speechless at how bad this is,” voiced a less than impressed liberty33r1b.
“Amber should sue hairstylist Tamara McNaughton for damages,” wrote KINGofVERSAILLES.
“The hair! Terrible,” a dumbfounded jeremydante shrieked.
Bertrando3 wasn’t overjoyed at the sight of the cover either. “So bad, I would sue. I want to know, how a big team can produce such an atrocious cover and NO ONE say anything when seeing it!” he fumed.

Three fashion capitals down. One to go, as we’re only just catching our breath after what has perhaps been the most whirlwind Milan Fashion Week in decades.
Kicking off MFW was Kim Jones at Fendi, with guests ushered into a space filled with XL Fendi it-bags sculpted out of white plaster, before models sashayed their way around the space wearing a colour-block collection of sophisticated separates and sheaths cut close to the body. Alberta Ferretti, the grand dame of Milanese fashion, gave us a breezy collection of silk, flowing organza and satin. Glamour was high on the agenda at Roberto Cavalli, in stark contrast to the Diesel show which was held in the middle of a rave, complete with around 7,000 people in attendance. Max Mara’s delightfully wearable collection boasted a color palette of neutral khaki, pistachio green, faded blue, mustard yellow and subtle pinks. Workwear jackets were paid with ultra-feminine ensembles at Prada while at Moschino, four stylists paid homage to Franco Moschino’s iconic designs from 1983-1993. Moody stares from the models were changed to grins going from ear to ear at Emporio Armani. Peter Hawkings was soon making his debut as Tom Ford’s creative director, presenting an ultra-luxe collection for someone who has somewhere fabulous to go, which ultimately proved Hawkings to be perfect successor to the Tom Ford label. Rainfall forced Sabato de Sarno’s open-air Gucci debut to head indoors, where the designer wiped the slate clean and delivered a plethora of reinvented classics for the storied Italian fashion house. Donatella Versace transported us back to the 60s at Versace (complete with a show-stopping last look won by none other than Claudia Schiffer) and it was an album of greatest monochromatic hits at Dolce & Gabbana. Matthieu Blazy’s latest offering at Bottega Venta gave us unexpected yet refined silhouettes and Maximilian Davis served up a modern and contemporary spring wardrobe for the Ferragamo customer. Closing out the festivities, the maestro of Italian fashion that is Giorgio Armani gave us yet another absolute masterclass in sophistication.

HIT | Ferragamo

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“A pleasure to watch as always. Maximilian Davis is really starting to hit his stride at the brand now.” [LadyJunon]
“His best collection yet for the house. It’s crisp.” [VERNIQUE]
“I felt that every idea and detail (the embroidered F lifted from Salvatore Ferragamo’s signature, the ankle strap on the sandals echoed in the leather collar detail of some of the looks, etc.) was well thought out and executed; the subtle bell-shaped sleeves on the tailoring looked very fresh; and the trail of very long fringe attached to the minimalist evening dresses was sexy and very chic at the same time.” [Kennnnn]

MISS | Philipp Plein

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“The circus is in town!” [Thefrenchy]
“Another season, another PP clown-show but always good for a chuckle!” [zoom]
“I don’t know who is buying this. I’ve literally never seen Plein IRL. The collection is atrocious with almost no respite.” [Nimsay]

MISS | Jil Sander

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“A pity that the thieves who stole the new Balmain collection did not steal this as well…” [jeanclaude]
“Jil Sander was never this conceptual, and certainly never contrived. Lucie and Luke Meier either don’t know or don’t care about the spirit of the brand.” [Kennnnn]
“The bling just don’t go well with the clothes. It only cheapens the whole collection.” [Gazillion]

MISS | Ferrari

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“What a waste of money.” [VERNIQUE]
“Ferrari? Looks more like a Fiat 500 painted in red…” [jeanclaude]
“I really wonder what’s the purpose of the existence of this line. Was it ever explained? It’s very difficult for me to comment on this collection because it’s a whole lot of nothing and I don’t understand where it’s meant to live…” [Thefrenchy]

MISS | Bottega Veneta

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“The moment Matthieu Blazy tries to be avant-garde he fails.” [jeanclaude]
“My problem is that Blazy over conceptualizes. He needs to be more instinctive, to know how to stop adding details over details over details. It could have been a really great collection if he hadn’t added a few extra coats, a few dresses and trousers with different lengths and so on.” [GivenchyAddict]
“Once again, too conceptual, too heavy-handed, and far too many competing ideas.” [Frederic01]

HIT | Missoni

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“Got a soft spot for Filippo Grazioli’s Missoni and he always delivers.” [tourbillions]
“The nipples, super-mini dresses and the orange is a bit tacky, but delightfully so. It’s fun and a bit stupid.” [LadyJunon]
“Lovely! It’s very easy to understand, but it’s such a strong offering that I don’t see it as a disadvantage. Everything here is wearable and stylish in the best way possible. I hope it sells because Filippo clearly deserves to be successful.” [perhydrol]

HIT | Dolce & Gabbana

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“Very sexy and effortless.” [tourbillions]
“May just be my most FAVORITE of collections during MFW, in all honesty! Absolutely love every last thing that I’m seeing – love the monochrome, the sheer fabrics mixed with the lingerie, the polka dots, the heels, the casting and the thought of this potentially photographed by Steven Meisel for the campaign.” [vogue28]
“I love the fact that it’s a streamlined collection. Looks fabulous. Who would have thought?” [Scotty]

HIT | Tom Ford

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“It’s a very good debut from Peter Hawkings. It’s more focused and builds on the TF lexicon, those velvet pants suits will sell very well and be copied a lot.” [disco54]
“LOVE IT! There’s everything we love about Tom Ford in this collection.” [DK92]
“Massively thrilled Peter Hawkings didn’t shy away from the quintessential Tom Ford aesthetic, and kept this whole collection on-brand, from first to last look. Tom Ford, will always and forever, be a brand that does not need a rebrand of ANY sort. Very much a fan, it’s just all so chic, sleek and sexy…” [vogue28]

MISS | Gucci

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“So underwhelming and terribly boring. There’s no signature, no discerning elements that separate these clothes from everything else out there at the moment.” [Frederic01]
“I’m disappointed. These are just clothes and nothing more, there’s no identity. I never liked Alessandro Michele’s aesthetics but he at least had something new to propose for the brand.” [Danilo Braz dos Santos]
“Not that far from what I was expecting: very commercial. There was nothing really bad, but nothing to gush about. It’s clothes ready to hit the stores. I hope Sabato de Sarno can stretch himself more here as time goes by.” [Marc10]

HIT | Versace

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“Donatella knows how to make a woman look and feel good. Wow!” [prylvi]
“Literally the best fashion show since the whole fashion month started! The models, the clothes, the hair, the makeup and Claudia… OMG, what a GODDESS!” [Zorka]
“I am thoroughly able to appreciate how much of a departure this feels from recent Versace collections (even down to the beauty styling, which I thought was flawless). For me, Donatella going down the whole 1960s route feels fresh, loved all the mini-dresses, the checkerboard motifs and just about every single dress towards the end. Even the show space felt like a total breath of fresh air!” [vogue28]

HIT | Max Mara

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“Gorgeous. It’s very consistent with Max Mara’s simple and relaxed luxury. The color diversity and color blocking is stunning.” [GoldenPetals]
“Luxurious and timeless but updated with the current time. Ian Griffiths keeps delivering everything that I want from Max Mara. The color palette is delicious and choosing Tonne Goodman to style for the show is the best decision Ian has ever made. Another hit from Max Mara.” [THD96]
“It’s so slick and luxurious. I love the proportions and the color palette.” [GivenchyHomme]

HIT | MM6 Maison Margiela

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“It’s very chic and looks expensive for a diffusion line.” [FiLeReD]
“It’s very Margiela for Hermès in spirit, no? I like it very much. This is superior to 99.9% to what we saw in NYC and London while being in more of the same positioning.” [Lola701]
“So smart, so chic, so slick. It’s so good. This is what most of NYFW wanted to achieve but they have subpar hands to handle fine simplicity like this. I mean everything is so delicious here but I love that dress look 14. It’s simple yet so complex.” [TaylorBinque]

MISS | Moschino

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“JESUS CHRIST. Katie Grand’s part is one of the most TRAGIC things I’ve ever seen in my life!” [DK92]
“Carlyne is the saving grace of this mess of a show. No one literally asked for this.” [TaylorBinque]
“If I were the owner of Moschino, I would be crying and begging on my knees for Jeremy Scott to come back…” [jeanclaude]

HIT | Prada

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“Absolutely in love with this collection! Very surprised! I need to see this in person, the details look exquisite. It feels more like one cohesive, solid collection than most of their recent ones.” [Joromana]
“Really tightly edited collection. A concise vision.” [Nimsay]
“It’s a great collection. This is the best collection that I’ve seen coming out of this Miuccia and Raf collaboration. My favorite looks are the pastel ones. They’re quite chic and reminded me of the former glorious Prada. And the sheer numbers are also great.” [THD96]

HIT | Alberta Ferretti

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“Light, breezy, another great collection from Ms. Ferretti!” [Ruito]
“Italian Ralph Lauren. Love the timelessness of this and it feels perfect for a Roman Summer Holiday. So many easy no-brainer separates. Finely made sheer gowns – which is her signature. The waist coat with slacks is perfect. Lovely.” [Nimsay]
“Typical Alberta Ferretti in the best possible way. So romantic & dreamy! Her customers are going to eat this up.” [bluestar]

HIT | Emporio Armani

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“Gorgeous color palette.” [Nimsay]
“I absolutely adore him. Bravissimo, maestro! Bright, beautiful сlothes and fantastic sense of color! He absolutely knows for whom he makes clothes and always feels it.” [HelgaZ]
“Another season and another collection from Armani which just flows oh so beautifully, from start to finish. I love how we start with the muted colour palette, and then ease into the greens, purples and we then conclude with Armani’s signature pink. Flawless!” [vogue28]

MISS | Fendi

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“I Fendied of boredom here…” [jeanclaude]
“Kim Jones really has no clue on how to do womenswear. Please, fire him and get someone else with skills.” [Creative]
“It’s getting tired and sad to witness every new season how constantly this guy is ruining Fendi. He has no clue how to dress a woman and make her shine. Hopeless. Please. please let him go and bring a skilled womenswear designer back.” [VERNIQUE]

MISS | Blumarine

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“I feel like Nicola Brognano can do better than this…” [Lola701]
“Disappointing. Last season was so much better.” [RedSmokeRise]
“Did they get a budget cut or something? This feels worlds away from his other shows (which were great, absolutely loved last season especially). There’s some gorgeous stuff but the styling is really boring and set even drier.” [gossiping]
See all the looks from the Blumarine Spring 2024 collection.

MISS | Diesel

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“What a mess.” [matheus_s]
“It just doesn’t do anything anymore. Yeah there’s some great textile potential but this is just a mess of so many different ideas and yet it’s once again the same thing they’ve been doing since the start.” [Cocteau Stone]
“This collection is stressed, everything is on the verge of a burnout, overworked, picked and plucked.” [Norden]
See all the looks from the Diesel Spring 2024 collection.

HIT | Roberto Cavalli

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“There’s no way I’m gonna hate on this. It’s true to the DNA of Cavalli, with plenty of desirable pieces.” [GoldenPetals]
“It’s a good collection from Fausto. He has found the perfect way to mix his tacky ways with a Cavalli sensibility. It’s sensual, well styled and quite efficient.” [Lola701]
“Glamorous, sexy, well made – his first powerful collection for the house.” [TianCouture]
See all the looks from the Roberto Cavalli Spring 2024 collection.

MISS | Etro

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“I really think Marco de Vincenzo is lost at Etro. I don’t know but there is something missing. The charm. The elegance. The bourgeois.” [TaylorBinque]
“It lacks focus and real direction. It really goes all over the place. The styling is terrible.” [Lola701]
“The styling is horrendous. He needs to go back to last season.” [LadyJunon]
See all the looks from the Etro Spring 2024 collection.

HIT | Del Core

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“I love how crisp and down-to-earth this collection is. Especially the closing look is wonderful, I want to touch it and investigate the simple cut and the fabric. The bags are also interesting, they feel like an organic part of the look and that’s a serious achievement for such a young brand.” [perhydrol]
“This was so good! I think Daniel Del Core is brilliant and I was so much looking forward for his collection. I love most of it. It all works well and it’s cohesive and seems to be perfectly executed.” [WAVES]
“This is so chic. Experimental without being overt. It’s the little touches. Like the front tucks of the tailoring jackets. Great color palette as well.” [youthinasia]
See all the looks from the Del Core Spring 2024 collection.

MISS | Bally

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“This brand is doomed – and lost forever.” [FiLeReD]
“This is just atrocious. Basics can be good but the cut of those clothes is literally worse than Phillipp Plein.” [Lola701]
“This is just a new level of bad for this season. Literally looks like a supermarket’s in-house clothing line. I appreciate Simone Bellotti had limited time but taste is taste.” [HazJW]
See all the looks from the Bally Spring 2024 collection.

HIT | Giorgio Armani

IMAGE: IMAXTREE

“The quality of those pieces is insane…” [Lola701]
“I like it, as usual. Slightly outside of his usual offer IMO but also very him.” [WAVES]
“It’s Giorgio Armani doing exactly what Giorgio Armani does best, and under no circumstances can I hate on him for producing such a collection. It’s flawless from start to finish, and despite my love for those Armani blues and soft pinks, it’s the combination of the gold and grey which cements my love for this collection!” [vogue28]

Right now, we’re in the midst of Milan Fashion Week’s Spring 2024 season and to say we’re in awe, would be an understatement.
