And so the 2024 awards season has officially begun…

Last night, Hollywood stars descended upon the iconic Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills for the 81st annual Golden Globe awards. Stars like Margot Robbie dazzled in sequined Giorgio Armani Privé (channeling Barbie, because what else?), Taylor Swift shone bright in custom lime green Gucci while the living legend that is Meryl Streep walked the red carpet in a shimmering Dolce & Gabbana floor-length skirt and jacket. Selena Gomez had somewhat of a mini Marilyn Monroe moment before the lens of the paparazzi, wearing a ruby red dress and the even the warm Los Angeles wind understood the assignment when Hunter Schafer arrived in custom translucent Prada. Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez nailed old-school Hollywood glamour while Elle Fanning took deep in the Balmain archives to unearth and revive a vintage Pierre Balmain dress.

Needless to say, the 2024 Golden Globe Awards proved to be an absolute fashion extravaganza and we here at theFashionSpot have curated the must-see looks of the night. Scroll further our selection:

The biggest night of award season definitely didn’t disappoint on the fashion front. The Oscars red carpet was full of extravagant gowns featuring everything from deconstructed bodices to capes to ruffles and fringe. We love when attendees take fashion risks, even if they don’t pay off. Hey, it’s the Oscars, go big or go home.

There was a lot of black on the red carpet and plenty of bling. And while nominees like Scarlett Johansson, Cynthia Erivo and Renée Zellweger let their dresses do the sparkling, others opted to shine via statement jewelry, especially necklaces. Necklines ran the gamut from strapless to off the shoulder to plunging. Special shout-out to Janelle Monáe for winning the red carpet with her hooded Ralph Lauren Collection stunner. There were some bright spots at this year’s Oscars, including Mindy Kaling’s golden yellow Dolce & Gabbana number, Florence Pugh’s blue-green Louis Vuitton creation and Kristen Wiig’s larger-than-life Valentino.

See what your favorite stars wore to this year’s Oscars in the slideshow above.

The red carpet at this year’s Oscars was full of red and pink gowns. And several featured ruffles upon ruffles upon ruffles. But that wasn’t our only taste of texture. There were heavy embellishments, velvet trim and dramatic back bows. Celebs like Lady Gaga, Emma Stone, Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lopez all slayed in their OTT looks, but it was Pose star Billy Porter who made the biggest impression in a fierce Christian Siriano tuxedo ballgown. Check out the slideshow above for all the fashion highlights from the 2019 Oscars red carpet.

Sparkle was definitely trending at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. In sharp contrast to the blackout at the Golden Globes, this red carpet was pretty blinding with all the sequined gowns and bright colors, not to mention all the flashy jewelry. Pink also proved popular with several stars selecting soft shades of the millennial favorite. The hairstyles were just as grand as the gowns with attendees rocking everything from natural locks to finger waves to slicked-back strands and even space buns. In case you missed the ceremony, you can check out all the red carpet highlights from this year’s SAG Awards above.

Is Porter about to break its streak of awkward-looking covers? We sure hope so as the publication gets us hyped for the Winter 2017 issue. Our forums have been huge champions of everything Porter since its 2014 debut but the magazine has allowed standards to slip over recent months. Thankfully, there seems to be a glimmer of hope with the unveiling of three new covers featuring Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson, photographed by Camilla Akrans. Celebrating “incredible women,” Brie wears Gucci in the first of two newsstand covers (below) and Emilia Wickstead in the second (after the jump). Porter opted for a stunning and commanding close-up for the limited cover for subscribers (pictured further down this page).
The majority of our forum members were quick to give their approval. “These are beautiful. My favorite covers for a while. The second is so modern, particularly for a celebrity cover. Never seen Brie Larson look this good either!” championed mercyminx. “I like them both! Finally something flawless and classic Porter. They should work more often with Camilla. Never thought of Brie as a classic beauty, her style is much cooler, but she looks great here,” noted Benn98. Also left pleasantly surprised by the outcome was dodencebt: “Woah! The second cover is incredible, I never thought Brie could look this cool and seductive. She’s usually very basic and chill.” “The best covers I’ve seen of her. The styling and soft photography enhance her quite common beauty, IMO,” voiced kokobombon.
Nepenthes favored the second cover too, commenting, “Stunning covers! Porter has really set a tone with their covers, particularly love the second one.” “The first cover looks a little awkward, but the second is stunning! Haven’t bought Porter in a while but I might have to get this issue!” confessed whippie. “She’s not very recognizable on the first cover,” stated HeatherAnne. “I agree with whippie, it’s awkward looking, and not flattering to her features. The second cover is cooler, but she could have brought more emotion to it, she’s not really selling it for me.”
We’re still rooting for you, Porter! Await the contents of the issue and share your own opinion with us here.

While Venice is known for a lot of glitz and glamour, the Toronto International Film Festival’s claim to fame is that it’s much more relaxed and the red carpet looks reflect that. Attendees are often willing to take a bit of a risk up in Canada, favoring everything from unconventional suiting to shorts and even those certifiably crazy looks that you always wondered how they would translate IRL (or the celebrity equivalent of real life).

Even though the festival is a pretty eclectic mash-up of trends, one running theme we noticed was white. Think flowing separates, LWDs and full-length gowns decorated with black embroidery. The other main takeaway was that if you’re not already familiar with shoe designer Chloe Gosselin, you’d better get acquainted because she’s primed for a bigger following after all the love she got at the festival.

In case you were too preoccupied with New York Fashion Week to catch all the fashion action in Toronto, we’ve got you covered with our slideshow of the best red carpet looks from the festival.

If there’s any time to get wildly experimental with your lewk, it’s at a Comme des Garçons-themed Met Gala. While the 2017 Met Gala red carpet was sorely lacking in Rei Kawakubo-backed designs, attendees were more than willing to show their weird via avant-garde beauty looks. For Cara Delevingne, that meant a bejeweled, spray-painted, hair-free head. Others paid homage to the woman of the hour by rocking her signature blunt bob. High-octane eyeshadow was another overarching theme, seen on the likes of Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Evan Rachel Wood and Jemima Kirke. And, as with any red carpet, there was no shortage of flawless cat eyes (though Candice Swanepoel’s took the crown). Click through the slideshow above to see all the over-the-top transformations and some of the more subtle, yet equally memorable, hair and makeup looks. We all knew the second that the “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between” theme was announced for this year’s Met Gala, we were in for some outlandish looks. (After all, if there’s one designer who deserves the OTT treatment, it’s Rei Kawakubo.) And certain attendees didn’t disappoint, delivering truly shocking ensembles. Leave it to Rihanna to give the biggest shout-out to Kawakubo by slipping on an elaborate structured floral piece by Comme des Garçons wrapped up with some extremely strappy red heels. Katy Perry turned heads in her veil-covered fiery custom Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano creation. Lily Aldridge also went for the veiled look, while a few daring souls topped off their ensembles with statement head or neck gear.

Even with all the lavish excess a gala like this demands, there were still some stars who played it safe. Though Elizabeth Banks, Diane Kruger and Lupita Nyong’o all looked lovely, we were really expecting a bigger fashion punch on this red carpet, especially since we were hoping that more stars would dare to rock Comme des Garçons’ wares. Nevertheless, there was a strong showing of grand gowns boasting everything from feathered trains to cascading ruffles. Red ruled the night, whether in full-on fashion or in concentrated pops serving as eye-catching accents. And, of course, what would a Met Gala be without a few see-through numbers?

In case you weren’t able to catch all the red carpet action from this year’s “intimate” affair, check out the slideshow above to see the best looks of the night.

For whatever unjustifiable reason, Brie Larson hasn’t landed too many fashion magazine covers. Surprisingly, the Oscar-winning actress has only appeared on American ELLE and W Magazine, but she can now add this month’s Vanity Fair to her portfolio. May 2017 also marks the first time Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin were hired to shoot a Vanity Fair cover. Photographed on location at Joshua Tree National Park in California, Brie wears a burgundy Ralph Lauren dress in the cover photo.
IMAGE: VANITYFAIR.COM But for all the team’s best efforts on set, our forum members weren’t exactly thrilled with the outcome. “Looking good, but she looks a bit uncomfortable here. Of course Vanity Fair had to go the pin-up route regardless of Brie’s vibe, but they’ll use her King King role as an excuse. At least it looks fashionable,” wrote Benn98 the second the cover was posted. “My first thought: evil woman about to burst out of her dress. Giving me Superwoman vibes. Otherwise, she looks good, intense,” Nymphaea stated. “Beautiful cover, I don’t find her exciting in print, but I like this. And wow what a year this is shaping up to be for I&V!” championed Miss Dalloway. LastNight couldn’t have agreed more, saying, “I adore Inez & Vinoodh and I am loving that they landed this cover not long after their first US Vogue cover, they’re on a roll!” Not everyone was feeling the love, however. “I hate it. Her head already tends to look too big for her body, and they went ahead and accentuated it. The ugly helmet hair doesn’t help. The transparent lettering in ‘BRIE’ looks so amateur,” ranted MyNameIs. “This cover is dull, and there is nothing remotely interesting about Brie Larson. She’s like the American version of Alicia Vikander,” slammed an uninterested mepps. “Exactly,” replied dfl-001 in agreement. “I don’t think every actress should make themselves available for these glamour shoots. Something more down to earth and unpretentious would be more fitting for Brie,” she pointed out. Check out Brie’s cover story and let us know what you think here.

The Golden Age of Hollywood experienced a bit of a rebirth on this year’s Oscars red carpet with several guests breaking out the va-va-voom in glamorous retro-inspired gowns (by thoroughly modern designers). Perhaps in an homage to the famous Oscar statue, gold was a popular hue and white certainly held its own with several sleek representatives. Vibrant shades of red, silver/gray gowns along with touches of velvet were also front and center. On the embellishment front, everything from fringe to feathers and lace made notable appearances. While there was a bevy of statement-making jewels and dynamic clutches, blue ribbons in support of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) were by far the night’s best accessory. Witness all the fashion highlights from this year’s ceremony in the slideshow above.
