Last night, Hollywood stars descended upon the iconic Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills for the 81st annual Golden Globe awards. Stars like Margot Robbie dazzled in sequined Giorgio Armani Privé (channeling Barbie, because what else?), Taylor Swift shone bright in custom lime green Gucci while the living legend that is Meryl Streep walked the red carpet in a shimmering Dolce & Gabbana floor-length skirt and jacket. Selena Gomez had somewhat of a mini Marilyn Monroe moment before the lens of the paparazzi, wearing a ruby red dress and the even the warm Los Angeles wind understood the assignment when Hunter Schafer arrived in custom translucent Prada. Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez nailed old-school Hollywood glamour while Elle Fanning took deep in the Balmain archives to unearth and revive a vintage Pierre Balmain dress.

The world of fashion continues to embrace Dua Lipa. After all, we’ve witnessed the 28-year-old English and Albanian chart-topping songstress front just about every major international edition of Vogue there is – from American Vogue to Spanish Vogue and Australian Vogue to British Vogue (twice!). Dua’s latest cover conquest is the September 2023 issue of Vogue France. Shot by Mert Alas (oui, without his creative other half Marcus Piggott), the fashion darling and firm favorite of Donatella Versace becomes an Alaïa girl in the intriguing Vanessa Reid-styled cover image, partaking in some serious power dressing wearing a statement oversized (somewhat of an understatement) brown collared-jacket designed by Pieter Mulier.

The moment the cover surfaced, our forums were engulfed in debate. “Was this cover to show us that Marcus [Piggott] is the one who does the job well?” asked DK92.
“I will never understand the appeal of this blank woman, or her forgettable music,” said mepps.
Also far from overjoyed was VERNIQUE, adding: “I still don’t get the appeal of Dua Lipa. Even if she tries very hard to be edgy, she seems to have the charisma of a basset hound – and the cover reflects that perfectly!”
“Why is she even in fashion? I find Dua Lipa one of the most boring celebrities ever. Basic music, no personal style, she just wears hyped brands,” artemovartem called out.
A select few of theFashionSpot’s forum members were left pleasantly surprised. “Not what I was expecting when I clicked on the thread but gotta say that I love this! Very high fashion IMO and it’s perfect for September,” kokobombon approved.
“I like this look on Dua and I think she pulls it off. The exaggerated collar works very well for me and while it’s not perfect, I don’t hate that cover choice. I think this is the best Dua’s ever looked on Vogue,” reasoned aracic.

After years of serving up the same old faces on the cover of Vogue, Anna Wintour is turning over a new leaf. After all, now four out of six cover stars this year have never graced the American publication before, including Dua Lipa. Now a five-time Vogue cover star, the singer makes her debut on the American fashion bible fronting the double June/July 2022 edition. With Tyler Mitchell behind the lens and Jorden Bickham on styling duties, the muse of Donatella Versace works an embroidered metallic mesh dress teamed with a tank top and silk shorts from Prada’s Fall 2022 collection in the nonchalant cover image.

Members of our forums won’t be making a mad dash down to newsstands, though. “This is so drab. Where’s the glamour, where’s the fun, the excitement? They could’ve played so much with her,” declared Marc10.

“Yikes! That’s one weak, dull and depressing cover. The coloring is atrocious for an issue which will sit on the shelves most of the summer and the styling is abysmal as is the beauty styling and Tyler Mitchell’s extremely bland photography,” voiced vogue28.

“Zero energy, the styling is beyond awful,” echoed KINGofVERSAILLES.

“Tyler Mitchell drains the life out of his subjects — even the most vibrant personalities,” Gary89 pointed out.

“I’m sick of Tyler Mitchell. Time after time he’s been given amazing opportunities by Anna and he never delivers. The Kamala Harris cover should have been the last straw,” added gunsnroses.

“Imagine Dua Lipa styled in Versace shot by Mario Testino. God, this is such a depressing state of affairs,” complained marsnoop2.

Meanwhile, helmutnotdead described the end result as “painfully ugly,” but do you agree?

We have to admit that we always expect the unexpected when it comes to red carpet fashion at the Grammy Awards. This year we were surprised at the relatively tame nature of most of the looks. Sure, there were a few crazy getups. But most attendees at the 2022 Grammy Awards opted to go glam. Not that we’re complaining.

Lady Gaga and Halsey went Old Hollywood rocking Armani Privé and Pressiat, respectively. Olivia Rodrigo’s Vivienne Westwood gown was enhanced by opera gloves and chokers. Tiffany Haddish sparkled in a glitzy Prada number. Dua Lipa’s elaborate black dress was instantly recognizable as a Versace thanks to all the Medusa accents. And H.E.R. took inspiration from Aretha Franklin for her custom Dundas jumpsuit.

Some stars took a more minimal approach. Hailey Bieber wore a sleek Saint Laurent column gown. Her layered necklace and delicate earrings were also pretty understated. The strappy neckline of Lily Aldridge’s black dress was anything but basic. It also perfectly complemented those strappy sandals.

A couple of suits really turned heads. Brandi Carlile’s Hugo Boss ensemble was blinged out, including the waistband and sides of the trousers. Elle King topped off her red set with an enormous hat.

Now the current face of Versace pops up on the cover of Vanity Fair for July/August 2021. Shot by Venetia Scott and styled by Lorenzo Posocco, Dua takes us inside London’s historic The Columbia hotel posing wearing a white lace Chanel bodysuit, Manolo Blahnik heels and Cartier jewelry.

The outcome was greeted with mixed feedback on our forums. “Beautiful portrait, but her pose ruins the whole image,” critiqued VogueGirl8910.

“Terrible and cheap cover shot…” disapproved MON.

“I will never understand her appeal. The music is generic and she has the charisma of yellow wallpaper. This will gather dust on shelves all across America,” voiced mepps.

“I don’t dislike her at all, but, damn, Dua is everywhere… She’s a straightforward pretty girl/pop singer. Is she really that fascinating? I’m just going to sit this one out,” proclaimed cestmagique.

“It’s like Billie Eilish‘s ‘boudoir mood’ British Vogue cover except done on a budget,” tigerrouge pointed out.

“I like the whole set and vibe, but Dua’s expression could be stronger,” admitted WAVES.

“Nice set design. And that’s (unfortunately) all,” said ah ah.

“More often than not, I loathe cover images where there are various different elements and textures in the background, but somehow Vanity Fair managed to make this busy and full-length cover image work. I’m particularly a fan of the beauty styling on Dua Lipa here and the clean layout,” admired vogue28.

Versace loves enlisting celebrities to help sell the legendary Italian fashion house’s wares. Demi Moore, Halle Berry, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez all appeared in Versace advertising campaigns. Now Dua Lipa receives Donatella Versace’s seal of approval becoming the face of the brand’s Fall 2021 collection. In the studio-shot images, Dua sports red hair while posing against a gray backdrop before the lens of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

The images failed to captivate the majority of our forum members. “No to the hair, no to the styling, no to the amateur posing, no to the Goyard-esque pattern…” declared dontbeadrag.

“Dula Peep has the charisma of a wet blanket,” said avonlea002.

“For the little work Mert and Marcus do nowadays one would think they would make more of an effort…guess not. She looks like a Wendy’s blow-up doll with the fake freckles and red hair,” YohjiAddict pointed out.

“Imagine looking back at this in a decade’s time as an example of the fashion imagery churned out in 2021,” added tigerrouge.

“I mean if they wanted Rianne Van Rompaey for the campaign, all they had to do was ask…” noted GERGIN.

But not everyone was disappointed. “I’m very pleasantly surprised at how much I like the outcome. Always a one for Mert and Marcus’ studio shoots, love the red hair on Dua and the fresh makeup look. A thumbs-up from me!” approved vogue28.

“This is a great and fun campaign,” confessed dodencebt.

The fashion is clearly something to behold at this year’s Grammy Awards. The beauty looks are pretty remarkable, too. From dazzling cat eyes to glossy lips, there are plenty of striking 2021 Grammys beauty looks to take in.

H.E.R. rocked shades along with her Dundas outfit, but when she pulled the glasses down we were treated to a colorful array of shadows. Miranda Lambert’s smoky cat eye got a sparkling upgrade. Dua Lipa’s eyes also shined and obviously coordinated with her flashy Atelier Versace dress. When it came to lips, Phoebe Bridgers won the night with her dark berry hue.

Moving on to hairstyles, Megan Thee Stallion was definitely giving off Old Hollywood vibes thanks to her glam updo. Jhené Aiko’s baby hairs were sculpted to perfection. Meanwhile, Maren Morris’ visible roots are inspiring us to keep letting our dye jobs grow out.

Dua Lipa’s magazine covers are definitely hit or miss. Whether she’s appearing on an absolutely “dated” British ELLE cover or earning high marks fronting Vogue Spain. Now Dua returns to the cover of British Vogue for February 2021. The singer looks like Linda Evangelista thanks to a cropped blond hairdo along with a Giorgio Armani Spring 2021 black dress courtesy of Kate Phelan in the Emma Summerton-shot image.

Nonetheless, our forum members are less than thrilled with the outcome. “They really played her dirty,” proclaimed a disapproving jorgepalomo.

“Should have stuck to the old style rules, they were better…” GERGIN points out.

“Why would you take Dua Lipa and style her like this? It’s aged her unnecessarily,” added an undoubtedly dismayed honeycombchild.

“It’s like they sucked all the life and fun out of her,” said tipi1355.

Marc10 also clearly isn’t a fan. “She’s such a pretty girl and wears high fashion with an almost Rihanna-like confidence so this is a major disappointment.”

“U.K. Vogue says the inspiration for this shoot was Linda Evangelista. That’s like taking the magazine’s archives and using them as toilet paper because all the shops are shut,” commented tigerrouge.

But vogue28 obviously disagrees: “Must be looking at a different cover because I find this all completely inoffensive on the eye and think it’s rather gorgeous.”
