And so the 2024 awards season has officially begun…

Last night, Hollywood stars descended upon the iconic Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills for the 81st annual Golden Globe awards. Stars like Margot Robbie dazzled in sequined Giorgio Armani Privé (channeling Barbie, because what else?), Taylor Swift shone bright in custom lime green Gucci while the living legend that is Meryl Streep walked the red carpet in a shimmering Dolce & Gabbana floor-length skirt and jacket. Selena Gomez had somewhat of a mini Marilyn Monroe moment before the lens of the paparazzi, wearing a ruby red dress and the even the warm Los Angeles wind understood the assignment when Hunter Schafer arrived in custom translucent Prada. Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez nailed old-school Hollywood glamour while Elle Fanning took deep in the Balmain archives to unearth and revive a vintage Pierre Balmain dress.

Needless to say, the 2024 Golden Globe Awards proved to be an absolute fashion extravaganza and we here at theFashionSpot have curated the must-see looks of the night. Scroll further our selection:

2021 Emmy Awards

For the 2021 Emmy Awards, stars definitely wanted to stand out. From notice-me shades like highlighter hues to blinding sparkles, there was certainly a lot to take in. Not that we’re complaining.

There were also plenty of striking accents. We’re talking opera gloves with finger openings to flaunt some serious stiletto nails courtesy of Emma Corrin and Miu Miu. Not to mention a matching bonnet. Kerry Washington rocked a corset-enhanced Etro dress. Plus, go big or go home sleeves a la Sarah Paulson and Billy Porter.

The jewelry game was strong, too. Yara Shahidi’s Cartier necklace almost upstaged her gorgeous green Christian Dior haute couture dress. Then there were the stunning earrings. Take for example Michaela Coel’s perfect pearl danglers.

Keep scrolling to see all the must-see looks from the 2021 Emmy Awards.

Vanity Fair June 2021 : Issa Rae by Adrienne RaquelDespite Vanity Fair offering beautiful Viola Davis, Gal Gadot and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez covers last year, 2021 is proving to be a different story for the magazine. So far not even Anya Taylor-Joy or archival cover images of Princess Diana have managed to generate much buzz. Now Issa Rae has our undivided attention as she becomes Vanity Fair‘s June 2021 cover star. The American actress, writer and producer strikes a pose wearing a chic look from Saint Laurent’s Spring 2021 collection (including that coveted gold breastplate) while posing for photographer Adrienne Raquel.

The cover earned mixed reviews on our forums. “Very The Hollywood Reporter,” critiqued MON. “Love that look on her, but I don’t like the cover. Very The Hollywood Reporter indeed!” added aracic. “Imagine spending your life seeing celebrities on the front of Vanity Fair looking like legends and when it’s your turn, you are given this caliber of cover,” tigerrouge pointed out.

“They did her dirty with this photography I’m afraid. But I’m so happy she’s on Vanity Fair!” exclaimed dodencebt. The topic of conversation soon turned toward the styling. “Out of all the Saint Laurent pieces I am happy they chose this look and it really suits Issa!” admired GERGIN. “I really like that Saint Laurent bra, it elevates the basic styling…” agreed kokobombon. “She looks incredibly beautiful and I love the styling,” raved [Piece Of Me]. “Absolutely love what Issa Rae is wearing in the cover shot, will love that Saint Laurent collection for many years to come, but the angle of the shot from Adrienne Raquel could’ve been a whole lot better and this could’ve been a far more commanding Vanity Fair cover than it is,” voiced vogue28. It has been a while since the last major award season red carpet event. The beauty looks from the 2018 Oscars are but distant memories and no one likely remembers the hair and makeup at the 2018 Golden Globes, no matter how fabulous the looks. So the 2018 Emmy Awards needed to fill a big void in our beauty-obsessed hearts — and it delivered.

The Emmys may have been on a Monday night, but it brought the Sunday night glamour. It seems makeup artists and hairstylists used the time away to recharge their creative batteries and get experimental. There were a few glam teams that set out to make us rethink our stance on old beauty rules, particularly the idea that matching makeup to outfits is dated. We even saw a few trends carry over from NYFW, such as hair embellishment.

Unfortunately, with everything good there must be some bad and a few unconventional looks weren’t carried off as successfully as we hoped. Click through the gallery above to see the most head-turning beauty looks from the 2018 Emmy Awards.

The red carpet at this year’s Emmy Awards featured a rainbow of eye-catching looks. From green to blue to red to yellow to purple, practically every hue was represented (and most in one very colorful custom gown). Even with all the brights on display, a few stars managed to shine in sequin dresses, like Mandy Moore in her dazzling Rodarte creation. Neutrals, like white and black, were anything but basic thanks to standout details, including a ruffled back on Claire Foy’s crisp Calvin Klein by Appointment sheath, the half moon appliqués decorating Jessica Biel’s wedding-worthy Ralph & Russo dress and the stunning embellishments on Angela Sarafyan’s grand Christian Siriano gown. And that’s just a small sampling of the must-see looks from the ceremony. See who else ruled the red carpet in the slideshow above.

US Glamour October 2018 : Issa Rae by Petra Collins

Our forums have been quite vocal when it comes to Samantha Barry’s vision for Glamour, repeatedly calling out the questionable art direction since day one. We can’t fault her choice in cover subjects, however, as Barry often selects women not typically featured on other mainstream fashion glossies, including Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish. This month’s cover girl is also a breath of fresh air: actress and web series creator Issa Rae, who was photographed by Petra Collins and styled by Stella Greenspan for The TV Issue.

Dare we say our forum members are warming to the new Glamour? “If they had put the old masthead on this cover I would have been pleasantly surprised. A step in the right direction I guess,” said A.D.C upon checking out the cover.

“I am in love with Issa Rae and Insecure and it turns out she can’t take a bad photo even if they tried. There is a selfie quality to the image that’s somehow fitting for a magazine cover in 2018,” dodencebt pointed out.

“I quite like it! The colored bars at the bottom were unnecessary though. A bit too literal,” said mikel.

But not everyone was into it. “They could’ve done her way more justice than this! She’s really beautiful, and I find that her hollow orbits often makes her profile look all the more stunning. But the angle, necklace, styling and background makes this look way too pedestrian. Not a fan at all,” Benn98 voiced.

“Looks like a bad fan-made cover to me,” said Piet Retief.

“Ridiculous… again,” snarled jal718.

Ken Doll Jenner thought the same, commenting, “She’s too beautiful to be given Glamour‘s juvenile treatment!”

Singer, designer and Fenty Beauty creator Rihanna announced on Instagram that Issa Rae and Childish Gambino will be attending the fourth annual Diamond Ball as host and guest performer, respectively. The Diamond Ball is a gala that helps raise funds for the Clara Lionel Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty herself to help impoverished communities around the world.

The gala, which is scheduled for September 13 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, has become a significant event in the city, attracting star-studded crowds with the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Calvin Harris making an appearance, according to Vogue. Last year, the benefit raised $5 million.

Named after her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite, the foundation is offering the chance to win a trip to the ball and walk the red carpet by either purchasing the new #DiamondBallOut highlighter by Fenty Beauty or donating online. Check out the website for more details.

Gigi Hadid CFDA Awards 2018

While there were gorgeous gowns aplenty at last night’s CFDA Fashion Awards, suits were trending in a major way. From conventional tuxes with a touch of sparkle to deconstructed versions showing a lot of skin, numerous attendees suited up for the ceremony. There was also quite a bit of color at the annual awards. Gigi Hadid practically supplied every shade imaginable in her bold Versace ensemble. But we also saw lots of reds, blues, greens, pinks and yellows outside of her outfit. A handful of stars opted for black but those looks came with little details like embellishments, pops of pinstripes, lace and lace-up detailing to ensure they were anything but basic.

There were definitely some consistent themes at this year’s epic Met Gala. With the party celebrating the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination exhibit, attendees offered their penance in the form of veils, crosses and headpieces galore. Yellows, reds and golds also proved popular for this secular celebration. As is usually the case, a few stars took things to the extreme. Rihanna transformed herself into a pope, Zendaya channeled Joan of Arc, Katy Perry looked like she was auditioning for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and Madonna reteamed with Jean Paul Gaultier for a more solemn spin. For all the fashion highlights (trust us, there’s a ton), check out the slideshow above.

US Marie Claire May 2018 : Fresh Faces by Erik Madigan Heck

Our forum members are often quite hard on the American edition of Marie Claire but over the past few months, the magazine has delivered some seriously strong covers featuring the likes of Hailee Steinfeld and Reese Witherspoon — and even managed to do Alicia Vikander justice. After finally receiving our forum’s seal of approval, the publication unveils a bold new look with its annual ‘Fresh Faces‘ issue for May 2018. The cover girls include Riley Keough, Katherine Langford, Issa Rae, Yara Shahidi and Sophie Turner, all photographed by Erik Madigan Heck and styled by Joseph Errico for a series of vibrant portraits.

Our forum members weighed in on which covers they’ll be tracking down. “Riley’s got the best cover, and maybe the third girl if they ditched the unnecessary jacket (below, center). The rest are really too much. Art direction is overwhelming, and while I love Erik’s work for UK Harper’s Bazaar, it’s just not working for me here,” commented Benn98.

“I’m thrilled to see Issa Rae!” TheoG applauded.

Forum member Nocturnal wasn’t exactly jumping for joy over the series of covers: “I don’t know them. They look boring!”

“Not one but FIVE boring and generic covers!” scolded Nomar.

“Riley is a fresh face? Please! She gets far more attention than her work is worth. Also, the art direction on these covers make my head hurt,” wrote ThatDudeOverTher.

Also quick to call out the magazine for its new art direction was MON: “Vogue Paris wants her font back!”

“That VP font that every magazine seems to be adopting doesn’t work here – it looks rather cheap in fact. There’s just a bit too much going on,” 333101 pointed out.
