And so the 2024 awards season has officially begun…

Last night, Hollywood stars descended upon the iconic Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills for the 81st annual Golden Globe awards. Stars like Margot Robbie dazzled in sequined Giorgio Armani Privé (channeling Barbie, because what else?), Taylor Swift shone bright in custom lime green Gucci while the living legend that is Meryl Streep walked the red carpet in a shimmering Dolce & Gabbana floor-length skirt and jacket. Selena Gomez had somewhat of a mini Marilyn Monroe moment before the lens of the paparazzi, wearing a ruby red dress and the even the warm Los Angeles wind understood the assignment when Hunter Schafer arrived in custom translucent Prada. Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez nailed old-school Hollywood glamour while Elle Fanning took deep in the Balmain archives to unearth and revive a vintage Pierre Balmain dress.

Now the mag is encouraging its U.S. readers to vote with the unveiling of its Winter 2020 edition. The series of black and white covers feature Bella Hadid, Chris Evans, Halsey, Jaden Smith, Janaya Future Khan, Janelle Monáe, Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore, Mariah Carey, Megan Rapinoe, Paperboy Prince and Taylor Swift all profiled by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

As usual with multi-covers, only a few really stand out. “Even though Bella will never be my favorite, and she is by no means in any way a thought leader, hers is quite a gorgeous cover,” confessed mikel.

“There’s no denying that black and white portraits are Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin’s superpower and these are beautiful. The shots of Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore and Bella Hadid are my favorites,” voiced vavavinny.

“Wow, Bella Hadid’s cover is gorgeous and the only one if any of these I’ll be purchasing,” shared Ghesquiere32.

“Bella’s cover looks nice and I like how they cleverly turned their logo into the word vote,” Urban Stylin chimed in.

Also liking what they saw was aracic: “Such a great set of covers with so many great stars (and many personal faves)…”

“My favorite is Janelle Monáe, she really uplifts the whole mood, followed by Bella, Chris and Mariah,” commented FashionMuseDior.

Not everyone was happy with the covers, though. “I’m sorry, half these people are not ‘thought leaders’ and make this cringe-worthy,” called out BlueRuin.

“Most of these people are not who I would consider thought leaders,” agreed Mercury6181.

Since taking over the helm of Christian Dior back in 2016, Maria Grazia Chiuri hasn’t exactly received a great deal of praise when it comes to the brand’s advertising campaigns (or collections for that matter). It’s always more of the same old, same old — from repetitive model choices to the use of the same photographer season after season. But with the unveiling of the French fashion house’s latest campaign things may finally be looking up. Jennifer Lawrence (obviously) poses before the lens of Brigitte Niedermair for Dior’s latest shot up against a gray backdrop allowing the Pre-Fall 2020 collection to do all the talking.

Members of our forums were pleasantly surprised. “Although it’s exactly the same boring campaign as every other campaign under MGC, I actually like this set of pictures. There’s a very vintage feel to JLaw’s beauty here, especially in the first portrait — I really like that image. It’s nothing to write home about, but it’s certainly a nice departure from incredibly dull Ruth Bell and Selena Forrest,” aracic appreciated.

“Happy for Brigitte, she brought the best out of a woman who I’m bored to death with. There’s something almost fetishistic about this campaign and I cannot help but gravitate toward it. Is goody two-shoes Miss Dior taking a walk on the wild side? One can hope,” noted YohjiAddict.

“I can’t believe I’m saying this about a Jennifer Lawrence for Dior campaign, but these images are stunning,” confessed dodencebt.

In complete agreement was vogue28: “These images are indeed stunning and perhaps I would’ve fawned over them even more had we not already seen this concept several times previously from MGC’s Christian Dior. It’s the all black that is doing it for me here, feels like a palate cleanser from previous campaigns.”

“We can officially now say she’s a better model than Ruth Bell and Selena Forrest at least,” proclaimed bluebanter.

Our forums have been more than vocal over the odd pairing that is Jennifer Lawrence x Christian Dior. Ever since the Oscar-winning actress put pen to paper back in 2013, she’s yet to overwhelm us as the face of the iconic French fashion house. A total of six years later and Dior still insists on milking the contract for everything it’s worth, and J.Law is back once again starring in another campaign for the brand. Following the Joy fragrance campaign, Jennifer now showcases Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection, surrounded by the work of artist Sheila Hicks at the Sikkema Jenkins & Co. art gallery in New York — and doing little else.

Dior, remind us when this contract is up, please? “Those art pieces look far more interesting than the clothes!” declared Benn98 the second the campaign dropped.

“This is just pointless! Pointless clothes, pointless campaign and clearly, a woman who doesn’t even care about fashion, Dior or the shoot,” ranted Lola701.

“Atrocious, and at the end of my tether with these mind-numbingly insipid Christian Dior campaigns,” vogue28 confessed.

“When will they get rid of her? This connection never worked,” disapproved Royal-Galliano.

DK92 couldn’t have agreed more, echoing: “I don’t understand how they continue with J.Law!”

“Dull. She doesn’t want to be there,” noted a less than impressed Perickles.

“She doesn’t make clothes and accessories look good, and her hair never looks good either. Jennifer’s much better suited for their makeup line. She looked very good in their Dior Addict lipstick ads,” confessed Morgane07.

You’re no doubt aware that Jennifer Lawrence is a brand ambassador for Christian Dior. Currently five years into her contract, the actress has fronted countless ready-to-wear advertising campaigns and wears the brand head-to-toe for various red carpet events.  Now, Jennifer becomes the face of Dior’s first pillar fragrance in 20 years, Dior Joy. In the captivating campaign image, J.Law was photographed on location at a hilltop house in Los Angeles by Jean-Baptise Mondino and emerges from the pool looking like a goddess…or does she?

Unfortunately, the campaign failed to captivate our unfiltered forum members. “Very plastic…” pointed out kokobombon the moment the campaign struck.

“By the look of it, she’s bathing in liquid silicone,” tigerrouge echoed.

“Why did they even bother to book a human as a model and not just hire an avatar designer if this was what they were going for?” asked June.

Feeling exactly the same way was Benn98: “LMAO! That’s what I was thinking as well. It’s so embarrassingly CGI. What’s happening at Dior though? Creatively, at least! Everything always looks so contrived and instantly forgettable.”

“I don’t know which is worse: the name, the bottle, the campaign. This doesn’t look like a perfume for a modern woman of 2018,” scolded TaylorBinque.

“This looks really cheap for Dior,” Nomar added.

Fluxxx couldn’t have agreed more, commenting, “Super mediocre and that bottle looks so cheap!”

Ever since Jennifer Lawrence became affiliated with Christian Dior back in 2013, she has appeared in multiple advertising campaigns (everything from lipsticks to handbags) and her relationship with the brand is still going strong five years later. Several months after her last stint fronting Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Resort 2018 collection, the American actress does the honors once again, starring in the Pre-Fall 2018 campaign. Brigitte Lacombe was welcomed back (because Patrick Demarchelier‘s out of the question now, right?) as campaign photographer, shooting Jennifer around a makeshift studio setting.

Per usual regarding anything Jennifer Lawrence x Christian Dior, our forums were a divided bunch. “Stunning,” declared mikose the second the campaign came to light.

“These are beautiful,” added bluebanter.

“These are such boring images but some of them actually don’t look too bad,” acknowledged Nomar.

Not everyone was here for it, especially Benn98, who commented, “Despite it being a new campaign it actually looks old! What I find with Dior is that their clothes look way too understated in the campaigns. I really don’t know how the brand continues to perform so well under Maria. Says a lot about modern consumers, to be honest.”

“Her attempt at modeling is even more beyond-the-pale than usual,” mocked Wintergreen.

“It looks more like Max Mara or some other classy Italian brand would do for their celebrity campaigns! I don’t see an ounce of Dior or French chic here,” pointed out rip_ian curtis.

TaylorBinque felt the same way, replying, “Even Max Mara has more exciting campaigns. It looks fine, it reads fine but it’s not at the level where Dior should be.”

And a good time was had by all, except maybe Ryan Seacrest.
