As editor of W Magazine, Sara Moonves has made the magazine’s ‘Best Performances’ issues into a bit of a thing. Since 2021 when the annual edition first made its official appearance, issues have been photographed by an array of celebrated photographers including Juergen Teller, Tim Walker and Jamie Hawkesworth. Moonves welcomes back Teller with open arms for W‘s 2024 portfolio, bestowing upon us an assortment of 13 covers featuring a whole bevy of A-list talent. In each of the covers Margot Robbie, Nicolas Cage, Greta Lee, Zac Efron, Natalie Portman, Colman Domingo, Jodie Foster, Ryan Gosling, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Julianne Moore, Lily Gladstone, Charles Melton and Robert Downey Jr. pose before Teller’s lens around various different Hollywood locations.

“Honestly, not sure what to think of these…” shared Ivancica the moment the covers dropped.

“These are all depressing to look at. Juergen even managed to make Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling look lifeless,” chimed in gunsnroses.

Also left severely disappointed was forum member lookatme, commenting: “Tragic. This kind of photography and concept is so embarrassing. OMG SO QUIRKED UP! THEY’RE IN A TRASHY SOUVENIR SHOP! HE’S HOLDING A LOBSTER! OMG!”

Xone felt the same way: “Teller needs a better direction, there is nothing interesting here – too pretentious!”

“These best performances issues by Juergen Teller (and everyone else) are the absolute worst when it comes to Sara Moonves’ W Magazine! Not one, not ONE redeeming cover and this is one of those occasions in which I cannot abide Teller’s photography or aesthetic. Major… UGH!” ranted vogue28.

As editor-in-chief of the American fashion glossy, Nina Garcia has propelled the Hearst-owned publication to new heights and outshines the competition on the regular. From covers with Zendaya to Phoebe Dynevor we have been utterly enthralled by the magazine’s offerings throughout 2023 and last month with Irina Shayk left us wanting even more. Garcia is closing the chapter on 2023 with a series of celebratory covers for ELLE‘s annual ‘Women In Hollywood’ issue and selects Jennifer Lopez, Jodie Foster, Taraji P. Henson, America Ferrera, Danielle Brooks, Greta Lee, Fantasia Barrino Taylor, Lily Gladstone and Eva Longoria as cover stars for the occasion.

ELLE‘s latest immediately sparked debate amongst our forum members. “Happy to see Danielle (the Oscar is hers for the taking) but I can’t say I particularly like any of these covers,” voiced KoV.

“None of the covers are beautiful, but the Jennifer Lopez’s is very Numéro,” DK92 noted.

“Too bad J.Lo’s mouth look weird, hers is the one of the best of the bunch IMO,” said kokobombon.

In regards to Lopez’s cover, forum member kasper exclaimed: “Terrible tribute to Herb Ritts! Can we have something original at least?”

MModa felt the same way, commenting: “The Jennifer Lopez cover is absolutely STUNNING! I cannot wait to get my hands on this issue with Lopez. I don’t see Herb Ritts influence in these photographs, I see Solve Sundsbo’s minimal style that I love. With a beauty and icon like Lopez, you don’t need special effects!”
