It’s official: David Sims is a firm fave of Sabato De Sarno. From the get-go, Gucci’s newly-instated creative director has insisted the brand’s studio-designed Fall 2023 collection be documented by Sims (showcased by model Vittoria Ceretti in the campaign) and called upon the celebrated British photographer for the Italian fashion house’s buzz-worthy jewelry campaign starring comeback queen Daria Werbowy.

De Sarno summons Sims once again with the unveiling of the Italian designer’s first official mainline advertising campaign for the Spring 2024 season, ushering in a whole new look for the brand first established in 1921. Wiping the slate clean for a new creative vision, a selection of models assemble within Sims’ photographic studio against a clean white backdrop. Complete with styling from Alastair McKimm, the fresh faces include Fadia Ghaab, Ana Rossolovich, Jiahui Zhang, Nyajuok Gatdet and Violet Hume.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“It’s a lifeless campaign from the backdrop to the group chemistry of the models. Super disappointing after such a promising start with the Daria Werbowy campaign,” said GERGIN.

“It’s clearly an attempt to reference the Fall 2004 Gucci ad but fails miserably to deliver anything,” voiced an underwhelmed grimm.

Also unimpressed was forum member tatouejeremie, adding: “A logo hoodie in a campaign in 2024? Must be a dire situation at Gucci!”

“The models have no energy, the clothes are bland, the setting is non existent and the photography is lazy,” complained GivenchyAddict.

In complete agreement was Marc10: “This collection desperately needed a strong, dynamic campaign with a star model to help elevate the clothes and create some sort of fantasy and desire. A white backdrop with bland new faces was literally the worst way to go. Terrible.”

Lookatme described the outcome as “abysmal” but do you agree?

The relationship between Marc Jacobs and Kim Kardashian only continues to blossom, and the designer is welcoming back the mega star with open arms, as the face and embodiment of his namesake New York-based label for the Resort 2023 season.

Jacobs first called upon the American media personality and bonafide fashion icon for his Fall 2023 advertising campaign and a mere two months later, invites Kim back once again as the face of his eponymous brand – complete with photography from Tyler Mitchell and Alastair McKimm on styling duties. This season sees Kim ditch the dark tresses in favor of blonde, roaming a set engulfed in red latex and in one campaign image showcases Marc Jacobs’ signature Canvas Mini Tote Bag with crystal embellishments.

It doesn’t get more Marc Jacobs than a monochrome color palette and sparkles. This mini tote is embellished with all over crystals on canvas that’s intended to fade and relax over time for an authentically broken-in look that Marc himself loves to wear. Go hands-free and style as a crossbody with the adjustable webbing strap included or unclip the strap and carry by the top handles. There’s no wrong answer.

Elsewhere in the campaign, Kim rocks a pair of Jacobs’ Rhinestone Kiki Ankle Boots, which first made their appearance back in Fall 2016.

Down at the newsstand, we’ve become completely accustom to the Kardashian/Jenner clang fronting the covers of our fave fashion glossies – from Kim Kardashian posing up a storm on just about every international edition of Vogue that is in existence to sister Kendall Jenner being declared an icon via the cover of Harper’s Bazaar. Apparently, it’s now North West’s turn in the spotlight, as the 10-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West makes a surprise appearance as one of the cover stars to i-D Magazine‘s recently-unveiled Fall/Winter 2023 edition. Photographed by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Alastair McKimm, North takes part in a black and white cover story, sporting all her own clothing and accessories.

Ultimately, however, i-D‘s latest left a whole lot to be desired in the eyes of our forum members. “I wonder if there really is anyone on Earth who would consider buying a magazine because North West is on the cover…” wrote DK92.
“Why is a literal toddler covering a fashion magazine?” asked Marc10. “I get that her family is shameless and see no issue in shoving a 10yo girl into the media circus but I would hope these editors had better judgment. If you’re so desperate for nepo babies at least pick that is not in elementary school. Ridiculous.”
“How much did KK invest for this cover to happen? Terrible! Shame on i-D and I’m sure they are so proud of this ‘exclusive’,” snarled Xone.
Vogue28 commented: “Never have I minded the sight to Kim Kardashian on magazine covers but this North West cover is a downright embarrassment and receives a resounding NO from me.”
“Honestly, everyone involved should be embarrassed but especially the editors,” voiced Drusilla.

Gucci 'Horsebit 1955' : Billie Eilish by Tyrell Hampton

Sabato De Sarno continues to make his presence felt as Gucci’s creative director. First came the internet-breaking Daria Werbowy campaign, followed by the unveiling of the designer’s highly-anticipated debut collection during Milan Fashion Week (which was ultimately declared a flop by our forum members). Shortly after, an advertising campaign starring real-life couple Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny was thrown our way and now yet another campaign under De Sarno’s direction is revealed featuring house ambassador Billie Eilish (who needs no introduction). The campaign shot by Tyrell Hampton and styled by Alastair McKimm places a spotlight upon Gucci’s Horsebit 1955 asymmetrical handbag collection, crafted in Demetra – Gucci’s new and innovative animal-free material, resourced from 75% plant-derived raw materials.

Members of theFashionSpot forums, however, were far from impressed with the end result. “Sabato as usual keeps the bar so low,” exclaimed Polynpon the moment the campaign struck.
“Yikes,” shrieked HodanChloe.
“Yet another Gucci advertising campaign under Sabato de Sarno’s direction that I… loathe. I’m sat here beyond underwhelmed over De Sarno’s tenure,” an unforgiving vogue28 echoed.
“I’m sorry, but why? Sabato isn’t helping his notably directionless POV with yet another celebrity endorsement. I’m really confused by his propositions for Gucci,” voiced Cocteau Stone.
Sharing the same sentiments was thiago, adding: “I can barely see the bags… and that’s a terrible sign. Once again, all these stunts for nothing. Every now and then they release and ad with a star that doesn’t really bring anything to the table. Everything sounds/looks/feels so desperate!”

Sabato de Sarno is yet to unveil his debut Gucci collection, but we’re already kinda OBSESSED with his take on the storied Italian fashion house. Last month, the designer who replaced Alessandro Michele as Gucci’s creative director back in January, gave us a glimpse at his vision for the brand by allowing us (and his 96.6k Instagram followers) a sneak peek at Gucci’s upcoming high jewelry campaign which features none other than modeling legend and fashion icon Daria Werbowy.

Marking her first fashion gig since 2016, the Canadian-Ukranian beauty who was born in Poland, stages a major comeback as the first face and embodiment of Sabato de Sarno’s Gucci with the unveiling of the campaign and the official images are FINALLY here for us to fawn over. Captured on location at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont, Daria can be found throughout the sun-drenched images roaming the grounds of the historic hotel, posing poolside and captured by David Sims. Styled by Alastair McKimm, the firm forum favorite dons pieces from Gucci’s Marina Chain collection which boasts anchor-chain detailing.

The world of fashion continues to embrace Kim Kardashian, with Marc Jacobs becoming the latest household name to welcome the American media personality and self-made billionaire as the face and embodiment of his namesake label. Not exactly Kim’s first time fronting a mega fashion brand, Jacobs can now rank himself alongside the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga and Balmain who’ve all championed and endorsed the SKIMS founder previously.
No stranger to a camera lens and whether she’s posting a selfie for her staggering 363 million (and counting…) Instagram followers or proving every inch her worth via the covers of American Vogue, Vogue Hong Kong or Vogue Arabia – there is simply no questioning how well Kim can photograph. This time, Kim can be found posing for photographer Tyrone Lebon and styled by Alastair McKimm wearing pieces from Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2023 collection throughout the series of campaign images, in addition to displaying a small off-white leather version of the brand’s signature tote handbag.

The campaign immediately ignited debate amongst our forum members. “Desperate times call for desperate measures. He pulled out his final weapon. If this fails, I fear it’s game over for Marc Jacobs!” declared an unamused GivenchyHomme.
“Oh gosh. Just no,” sighed tjasmine.
“He must be desperate to save his brand,” MaraPiovani echoed.
“All brands need exposure in order to be truly profitable, and this has been the case since the days of Gigi and Kendall, so it’s no shock,” reasoned forum member 9sete.
Yet not everyone was so disapproving of Kim. “I do like Kim Kardashian and don’t mind her becoming the face of yet another major fashion brand but this is definitely the weakest campaign we’ve gotten, and pales in comparison to Dolce & Gabbana by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Tyrone Lebon ranks alongside the likes of Collier Schorr and Cass Bird for me – who could all disappear and I would not care less,” vogue28 chimed in.

We have been wishing, hoping and waiting for this mega fashion event to come to fruition, in what feels like forever – and ever! Finally, the long-awaited comeback of modeling royalty Daria Werbowy is here.
News of Daria’s comeback first came to light back in June, when rumors began to swirl online that the Canadian-Ukrainian beauty would stage a comeback along with the unveiling of Phoebe Philo’s (also highly-anticipated) eponymous label in September 2023. Yet to everyone’s complete surprise, the resurgence of the 39-year-old firm FIRM favorite of theFashionSpot forums has been bestowed upon us even earlier than expected. Knocking us for six, Gucci’s newly-appointed creative director Sabato de Sarno tapped Daria as the face of his first advertising campaign for the storied Italian fashion house.

No stranger to Gucci, Daria has previously fronted the brand’s Mario Testino-lensed advertising campaign for Fall 2004 which marked Tom Ford’s last as creative director. Fast forward to 2023 and we encounter Daria posing poolside at Los Angeles’ historic Chateau Marmont, wearing nothing but a pair of black GG logo bikini briefs and gold statement earrings from the latest High Jewelry collection. The campaign was photographed by David Sims (who captured Daria’s last Vogue Paris cover), complete with styling from Alastair McKimm.
To say the wait was worth it, would be a tremendous understatement. Await more from the campaign and join the conversation, here.

We went through all of 2019 without a single cover making waves on our forums, but i-D‘s first offering of 2020 has caught our attention. For “The Icons and Idols Issue,” the mag is giving us six covers to choose from down at the newsstand. There’s Kate Moss by Mario Sorrenti, Adut Akech by Daniel Jackson, Rianne Van Rompaey by Alasdair McLellan, Gigi Hadid by Jamie Hawkesworth, Binx Walton by Oliver Hadlee Pearch and Kaia Gerber by Willy Vanderperre. What more could we possibly ask for?

“Not her strongest cover for i-D, but you simply can’t go wrong with Kate,” agreed aracic.

Ever since Anthony Vaccarello took over the reins at Saint Laurent back in 2016, he has favored a certain type of look for the brand’s advertising campaigns. The images are (more often than not) either photographed in the studio or in black and white and usually feature his favorite models and muses. The Italian-Belgian designer is trying his hand at something different for Summer 2019, opting to have photographer Juergen Teller shoot the campaign on location. Models Freja Beha Erichsen and Mica Arganaraz roam the grounds of Villa Serbelloni in Lake Como, Italy in looks styled by Alastair McKimm.

Our forum members were instantly reminded of something (or someone). “Always the first one to call out Juergen Teller but I am loving the look of this, especially that first shot of Freja with that Lake Como backdrop and the shot of all the legs… very Helmut Newton-esque,” admired vogue28.

“Loving the Helmut Newton vibes. I always thought Vaccarello should have leaned into the Newton look,” added forum member lelaid.

“Lovely and fresh. Much better than their black and white campaign avalanche each season. I’m glad that Teller can still produce stellar work!” said russianelf.

Burbuja8910 agreed: “Amazing campaign, a beautiful tribute to Helmut Newton.”

However, HeatherAnne wasn’t here for the outcome. “I saw the leg shot and got really excited for the Helmut Newton vibes. But they failed to make the woman look sexy here, and that’s something Newton would have never missed his cue on,” she said.

“Bad copycat of YSL’s late 80s/early 90s Newton campaigns,” added kasper.

“Love Freja but I would rather see her back at Chanel than at YSL. Unfortunately, Teller is no Newton so, he cannot sell sex on a beautiful location. Nice try Anthony… but no,” Lola701 commented.

Also feeling slightly underwhelmed was Creative: “I love Teller and Freja, and this had a lot of potential, but I think the styling, hair and makeup kinda ruined it.”

Italia welcomed back an old favorite last month, giving the December 2018 cover to iconic supermodel Shalom Harlow. To kick off 2019, the Italian fashion bible is starting with a fresh face, model Rebecca Leigh Longendyke. After an impressive Spring 2019 runway season (she walked over 40 shows), the blonde beauty solidifies her position as one of the industry’s hottest newcomers. Photographed by Craig McDean and styled by Alastair McKimm, Rebecca wears black Valentino and gives a nod to the 60s to portray “the elegance of youth.”

Unfortunately, the cover fell completely flat with the majority of our forum members. “It could have been such a good cover with the background image only. The front shot of Rebecca looks weirdly Photoshopped, IMO,” pointed out Ivanovaju.

“That is one gorgeous girl but I’m not feeling the two images together. The background one would have been so stunning on its own,” echoed dodencebt.

“Ditch the stiff mannequin in the foreground and this could’ve been kinda cool,” added ellastica.

Sharing the same sentiments was orchidee: “The background shot alone would have been intriguing. She looks confused in the foreground.”

MON couldn’t have agreed more. “Not that terrible, but absolutely could and should have been better. The background image should have been the lone cover. The front image just doesn’t work that much,” he said.

“I hate it. It’s weak and it makes no sense to me. What is this pose? She looks like she doesn’t know what to do with her hands!! Awful,” said ghostwriter10549.

“The pose could be more commanding, especially with that backdrop and the campiness of the dress. But it’s a halfway decent cover,” Benn98 said.

“Comparing this to their previous covers, it looks nice, feminine and properly vintage. Pretty girl,” Srdjan added.
