Major fashion brands have insisted the fashion pack travel to numerous different countries across the globe for their Pre-Fall 2024 presentations. Balenciaga staged its latest fashion showcase extravaganza on location in Los Angeles and Chanel traveled to Manchester. Maria Grazia Chiuri, however, is remaining in Paris with the unveiling of Christian Dior’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection. Grazia took inspiration from Marlene Dietrich, who was a Christian Dior client and was famously quoted as saying “No Dior, no Dietrich” when Alfred Hitchcock selected the German actress for the role in the 1950’s film Stage Fright. As a result, the collection oozes a boyish charm with the silhouettes taking major influence from the 19th century. Dior’s first female creative director also took inspo from New York City and Monsieur Dior’s take on serving the American market in the late 1940s.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Very late-stage John Galliano.” [GoldenPetals]

“MGC needs to get more into her Galliano bag. her clothes are only interesting when she does. Oherwise it’s just chic and boring.” [gallianostan]

“115 looks just to let us know how good the whole film set is.” [jeanclaude]

“Heels are nice, some of the pants are great too, but overall it’s giving 1930s depression era socialite lesbian.” [disco54]

“That would be decent costume designs for a period WWII drama movie, so the complete antithesis of Christian Dior designs…” [yslforever]

“One of the most bland and boring collections I’ve seen in a long time. And basically it doesn’t even look French so it doesn’t look Dior. Really unappealing and quite depressing too.” [Abracai]

Christian Dior’s YouTube channel is one of the best on the video sharing website. Period. Blessing us with awe-inspiring behind-the-scenes footage and fascinating savior-faire videos from the Paris ateliers of the fabled French fashion house – we regularly find ourselves obsessing over Dior’s uploads.

An in-depth look at Christian Dior’s Cruise 2024 collection shown in Mexico is one of the latest to be uploaded, which introduces us to the communities that worked on the collection. Maria Grazia Chiuri whisked the fashion pack off to Mexico City back in May, staging the show on location at Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, the alma mater of famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. The Italian creative director collaborated with local designers on the ground in Mexico, in order to showcase the country’s traditional techniques, cultural practices and exceptional craftsmanship. As a result, models paraded a collection of airy crisp white shirts, tiered skirts, traditional huipil tops and embroidered bar jackets – complete with a series of white cotton dresses boasting words of protest rounding out the show.

Watch the hour-long Dior Metamorphosis: The Story of Dior in Mexico documentary below:

Back in May, the collection caused great divide amongst our forum members. “Lots of absolutely gorgeous clothes but I must say it’s a bit boring for me. I was expecting a little more.” [Mutterlein]

“It’s mediocre. Nothing is exciting. It’s either frumpy, ill fitting or culturally-in-your-face-inspired. Not one single piece is amazing. Maybe the white coat but they had to add that cheap a** looking belt. MGC hasn’t designed anything unique or original since she started at Dior. ANYTHING.” [WAVES]

“As safe as MGC’s clothes are, I really find it hard to find fault with a consistent designer whose clothes resonate with a real woman and real customer base. My only complaint with Dior is the extraordinary cost and negative environmental impact that is being accrued with these mega-shows in these far-off places. Is it not enough to show in Pairs, why spend such absurd amounts of money to fly the masses to a location just for press?” [Fulton St Critique]

“Just a bunch of stiff chiffon dresses this time with Mexican-themed embroidery.” [Nimsay]

“The presentation is poetic, but the clothes is tragic as usual!” [JohannesL]

Christian Dior Joaillerie F/W 2023.24 : Elizabeth Debicki by Julien Martinez Leclerc

It is common knowledge that Christian Dior likes to have a whole rooster of brand ambassadors (like Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman, Yara Shahidi and Anya Taylor-Joy) on speed dial, to make appearances either on the red carpet dressed in one of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s designs or fronting an advertising campaign for the fabled French fashion house. Dior added Elizabeth Debicki to their rolodex and wealth of ambassadors back in late 2021, with the actress’ first official outing arriving in the form of the brand’s Rose Dior joaillerie advertising campaign in 2022 – to much fanfare on theFashionSpot’s forums.

Almost a whole two years later, Debicki returns as the face of Christian Dior Joaillerie for the Fall 2023 season, appearing before the lens of photographer Julien Martinez Leclerc and dripping in the the Victorie de Castellane-designed Rose Dior Bagatelle and Bois de Rose collections. Against a simple yet classic, clean and timeless grey backdrop, the Australian beauty oozes elegance and grace as she gazes down Leclerc’s lens.

Sparkling diamonds and mesmerizing gemstones animate the Rose Dior Bagatelle and Bois de Rose jewels by Victoire de Castellane, with actress Elizabeth Debicki personifying this brilliance, mirroring a decadent homage to nature. The glistening Bois de Rose pieces reveal pure, organic forms of rose stems and thorns in gold, marrying the untamed beauty of the wild with Dior Joaillerie craftsmanship.

Following the title’s hugely-successful relaunch back in 2019, editor Thaleia Karafyllidou has propelled the magazine to new heights and is regularly on our radar. Over past months, covers with Kim Catrall and Eva Green have had our undivided attention and the Greek fashion bible’s offering for December 2023 is no different. In a homage to the legendary American-Greek soprano Maria Callas, Anna Cleveland covers the celebratory year-end edition and strikes some dynamic poses across a duo of dazzling and drama-filled cover images. There’s a certain rooster of celebrities who just photograph like a dream and make no mistake Charlize Theron is one of them – whether she’s bringing life to the cover of Marie Claire or embodying the ultimate Christian Dior woman as the face of J’adore. Charlize is a photographer’s dream and Sebastian Kim is the latest to point his camera toward the South African-American actress, with the unveiling of Town & Country’s November 2023 edition. In the regal and elegant cover image, Charlize wears a black (to no one’s amazement) Dior blouse and a selection of Dior Fine Jewelry, teamed with a pair of black Nili Lotan trousers in the shot as she sits perched atop a stool against a grey studio backdrop.

Upon seeing the cover, members of our forums were immediately smitten. “So elegant, I love that she looks her age and quite flawless,” admired marsnoop2.
“Sold. Immediately sold, and not just because of a beauty like Charlize Theron on the cover. It’s all just so tasteful, refined and beautifully executed. I adore the cover shot, so elegant, glamorous, regal and poised- love the black and the subtleness of the jewelry (even the watch),” cheered vogue28.
“T&C does it again. A cover that fits their readership and aspirations as a magazine. Great job,” NYLA22 applauded.
Also very much a fan was hfd fdsf, simply expressing: “OMG, I love it!”
“It’s a good cover but it’s not blowing me away. However, Charlize is like Jennifer Aniston: any styling, any backdrop, she will sell. Theron is extremely beautiful and I love her as an actress,” Bertrando3 noted.

Whether it’s bringing awareness to women’s issues via slogan t-shirts or commissioning female photographers to capture Christian Dior’s advertising campaigns – there’s zero denying Maria Grazia Chiuri is all about female empowerment as Dior’s creative director. From Brigitte Lacombe to Brigitte Niedermair, we’ve encountered a whole multitude of female creatives producing imagery for the fabled French fashion house and Niedermair is back for Cruise 2024. Presented back in May on location in Mexico City, the collection boasts influences of traditional Mexican heritage both ancient and contemporary, and the accompanying campaign images also pays tribute to Mexico’s rich and artisanal heritage. Models Ana Miguel, Ana Oliveira, Celic Dorig, Maryel Uchida, Sara Caballero and Sara Esparza assemble before Niedermair’s lens, while paying tribute to the late famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.

Members of our forums soon began discussing Christian Dior’s latest campaign. “The theme inspired by Mexican arts looks really refreshing,” OllieJE admired.
“An obvious inspiration from Frida Kahlo’s painting ‘The Two Fridas’. It looks really beautiful and as a Frida Kahlo lover myself, I’m biased on my liking of this picture (above), however did they have to be this literal?” asked WAVES.
“I can’t wait for someone to break this century-long fast for Dior to have a good campaign,” chimed in DK92.
“Another awful Christian Dior advertising campaign under Maria Grazia Chiuri to add to the list. It all looks so stiff, lifeless, and completely devoid of energy. In all honesty, the campaigns are by an absolute mile the element I loathe and resent most about MGC as Dior’s creative director. Dreadful, season after season,” complained a disapproving vogue28.

You may still be buzzing from the recent ready-to-wear collections we’ve all just digested for Spring 2024, but Christian Dior is reminding us of the sheer brilliance of the Fall 2023 haute couture collections back in July, with the unveiling of a making-of video which takes us deep inside the Dior ateliers to bare witness to the immense artistry and craftsmanship of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s 14th couture outing as creative director.
The 20+ minute video shows the Dior artisans as masters at work, crafting each look by hand for Chiuri’s collection boasting elements that can be described as archetypal: the tunic, the peplum, the cape, the stole – each look inspired by mythology and goddesses of the ancient world. Constructed in a dreamy and muted color palette of white, beige, silver and pale gold, models paraded the 66-look collection around a set adorned with the work of artist Marta Roberti.

Back in July, our forum members raved about the collection. “DIVINE. Absolutely stunning,” raved Mutterlin.
“I loved it. Even in the still images one can see how light the tailoring is, how it just floats on the body. The jackets slightly pinched in at the waist, and the maxi skirts with a slight gather at the hem – very beautiful silhouettes. My favorite look is the black dress on Sui He,” admired Kennnnnn.
“Cut by gods, sewn by angels. Exquisitely gentle clothes. The series of white tailleurs are faultless. The plissé dresses look weightless. Some of the techniques are just incredible yet so quiet in their execution. These are clothes that are respectful of a woman and allow for graceful freedom, to be enjoyed by her, cherished. Outstanding,” voiced Dellone.

We don’t know where you’ve been if you weren’t aware that Harper’s Bazaar Italia relaunched (to great fanfare) back in 2022, with the magazine’s first reintroduction to print for December giving us a trifecta of terrific Alix Bouthers, Vittoria Ceretti and Assa Baradji covers. Now, six issues in and under the control of editor Daria Veledeeva, Craig McDean captures models Mila Van Eeten and Maty Fall for October 2023. The two models-of-the-moment take to two separate print covers for the occasion, both complete with styling from Katie Shillingford. In cover one (below), Mila who hails from the Netherlands poses on the studio floor wearing a sequined Gucci dress and red kitten heels from the Italian fashion house, while Senegalese-Italian beauty Maty (after the jump) is styled in head-to-toe Christian Dior.

Forum member Ihhbl commented: “Maty looks lovely, as always! She’s such a beautiful girl. Mila’s cover is more captivating though. Good use of angles!”
“Both covers are charming. The first one makes Mila look like a fairy, so cute and innocent,” admired oaklee91.
“I really like the first one. It feels like a reference to Bazaar under Nancy White in the 1960s. A smart way to play with the layout,” commended blueorchid.
Vogue28 shared the same level of enthusiasm, adding: “Mila Van Eeten’s cover is fabulous. I usually loathe rotated cover imagery (i.e. the August cover of Vogue France) but this is a prime of example of how rotated imagery can work perfectly, with an artistic and stylized effect. The cover itself is so simple, yet so effective and the whole minimalism works wonders. A firm 10/10 from me!”
“This is, as the headline suggests, alluring!” voiced dmliev.

By now, I’m sure you need no informing that here at theFashionSpot, we’re huge champions and supporters of ELLE France. Week after the week, the magazine manages to outshine and outdo the competition down at the newsstand and as the gift that keeps on giving, we regularly sit in anticipation as to what the publication has in store for us next.
Following last week’s triumphant and celebratory Keiona offering, Véronique Philipponnat gives us French ELLE regular Laetitia Casta on this week’s issue dated October 5, 2023. Photographed by Boo George and styled by the magazine’s fashion editor Anne Marie Brouillet, the French model and actress is all smiles in the cover photograph, decked out in a head-to-toe look from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Fall 2023 collection for Christian Dior. No stranger to Dior, Laetitia was handpicked by Chiuri to feature in the legendary French fashion house’s ‘Lady 95.22‘ handbag advertising campaign earlier this year.

Members of our forums, however, felt somewhat disappointed with the end result. “They didn’t exactly try to make her look her best, did they,” pointed out FashioNarrating.
“‘I’m unwashed and it’s Sunday, do I really have to leave the house?'” added tigerrouge, also suggesting Laetitia was done a disservice.
“Just glad to see her!” liberty33r1b reasoned.
“While I’m not impressed by the cover, I think that it’s very classic approach to a fashion cover that ELLE France does so well and therefore it works for me,” aracic chimed in . “Could it have been better? Sure, yeah!”
“For me, Laetitia Casta will always and forever be a good idea. Casta’s story by Mario Testino and Emmaneulle Alt for Vogue Paris May 2012 will always remain the gold standard, but I am very much liking the sight of this cover – especially the art direction. It’s fun, it’s loud, has a hint of joy… I’ve zero complaints,” praised vogue28.
