Billie Eilish Becomes the Face of Gucci’s First Vegan Handbag, Starring in the Horsebit 1955 Campaign

Sabato De Sarno continues to make his presence felt as Gucci’s creative director. First came the internet-breaking Daria Werbowy campaign, followed by the unveiling of the designer’s highly-anticipated debut collection during Milan Fashion Week (which was ultimately declared a flop by our forum members). Shortly after, an advertising campaign starring real-life couple Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny was thrown our way and now yet another campaign under De Sarno’s direction is revealed featuring house ambassador Billie Eilish (who needs no introduction). The campaign shot by Tyrell Hampton and styled by Alastair McKimm places a spotlight upon Gucci’s Horsebit 1955 asymmetrical handbag collection, crafted in Demetra – Gucci’s new and innovative animal-free material, resourced from 75% plant-derived raw materials.

Members of theFashionSpot forums, however, were far from impressed with the end result. “Sabato as usual keeps the bar so low,” exclaimed Polynpon the moment the campaign struck.

“Yikes,” shrieked HodanChloe.

“Yet another Gucci advertising campaign under Sabato de Sarno’s direction that I… loathe. I’m sat here beyond underwhelmed over De Sarno’s tenure,” an unforgiving vogue28 echoed.

“I’m sorry, but why? Sabato isn’t helping his notably directionless POV with yet another celebrity endorsement. I’m really confused by his propositions for Gucci,” voiced Cocteau Stone.

Sharing the same sentiments was thiago, adding: “I can barely see the bags… and that’s a terrible sign. Once again, all these stunts for nothing. Every now and then they release and ad with a star that doesn’t really bring anything to the table. Everything sounds/looks/feels so desperate!”
